Now the R1 riding landlady of my local does call the pointy SV a girls bike. She also calls the GSXR750 a tarts bike, but that is because her husband wants one.

I saw a woman ridng a GSXR600 the other day (the big SRAD ones) and she looked way too small for it, almost unsafe. But then looks are decieving! And I would have thought the same if it was a small bloke riding it. There is sexism in biking, since its considered a "macho" thing to do. But I keep my mind open; if someone rides a bike, they ride a bike. Cool. If they chat crap when off the bike, then I judge! Shame about these stories though where the gf / wife has been looking at R1's etc and been sort of ridiculed by the sales person. Just give them what they deserve (earfull of complaints) and storm out, reminding them that they make money based on commision (dont they? i dunno) and they just lost some!
If i could get maria onto a bike i would! Matt |

Like Blue said, there is sexism and racism and similar 'isms in all walks of life. The only way you get rid of it is by treating the purveyors of such rubbish as the no-brain inconsequentials they are. Sad and pathetic people trying to feel superior is all. Paws just walking away was a good example of how to treat such F*kwits.

I think the riding speaks for itself. I see women on bikes, and mentally go 'Yay, go girl', but then when you look in the helmet you very often see fear in their eyes!!!!
Personally, I have made an effort to keep my femininity on the bike(as in the leathers I wear etc), and am proud of my shape ![]() I am not a girly girl, I am an average rider, certainly aggressive, and more then capable of standard road riding. When I ride in a group, I initially feel I have to prove something, I actually think it is my own head and thankfully I have strength of mind to ignore these feelings, and keep within my comfort zone. I think it is sexy to be a biking girl, tight leathers, long hair, in control of a powerful machine ..... bring it on girls, most red blooded men love it! And if they don't their not you kinda man anyway! ![]() Be proud of being a female rider, and boast your femininity, I like being part of an elite few women, we have an understanding, I think ! ![]() |

This must cause girls massive amounts of agrovation. In general there is alot of sexism in biking, I think this is due to the media. The only times i have seen women on bikes on tv they have either not been able to touch the ground on bigger bikes with thier feet or be able to support the weight of the bike when sitting on it/ getting on or off.
It is unfair though. Because if you have a license you must have been able to handle a bike. Its tough for women but i think in life in general most men are sexist even if they do not do it on perpose. |
