Re: Vintage film cameras
Where do you get your materials for cleaning cameras? Lighter fluid, methanol etc. My usual supply may be about to be cut off

Re: Vintage film cameras
Lighter fluid comes from Poundland at an obvious price.

Re: Vintage film cameras
What else do you use? I have methanol, isopropanol, peroxide, and ammonia

Re: Vintage film cameras
Just that usually. Only because I haven't tried to get anything else.

Re: Vintage film cameras
Methanol is good for lenses, I usually use hexane (lighter fluid) as well as the methanol won't really dissolve greasy stuff. I got the IPA first and it's good for general cleaning I guess, you know what these things are like sometimes, you have to go over the outside with a baby wipe then some IPA so they don't make your fingers itch!

Re: Vintage film cameras
Baby wipes are my go to for the exterior as it's gentle but a good cleaner. I then wipe it down with a micro fibre cloth. I also have bamboo skewers for getting in to nooks and also cotton buds.

Re: Vintage film cameras
Actually darkened the portals of Jessops today for a roll of FP4. Also swapped the shutters over between the two Durst Automaticas I now have. Forgot a couple of the fiddly bits from before, but got there in the end. Now there is a minor problem where the shutter cokking doesn't always latch, I think it's a bit of stickiness in the winding gear, or the rack is a tooth adrift perhaps. Classic Italian engineering, funny arrangements of bits and throw a six to start. The beater one has what should be a working shutter but it's gummed up. The meter cell is dead though, and now it has the body with the jammed rewind. Will hang onto it on the offchance another comes along that it could donate to, but I'd be surprised if there would be! I was going to give the new Fujica a look over and clean the film chamber but not got to it yet.

Re: Vintage film cameras
I saw a Zeiss Cotessa LK at the car boot today with a 2.8 Tessar lens but it was riddled with fungus. He also had an Ikoflex ii but it had some separation in the lens but was still £55.
