You make a highside sound like a passive event, rather than something that actively involves the rider.

Funnily enough, at the time I felt like I had no input as to what was happening.
I know, it was my fault at the end of the day but I suppose it's all part of the Experience factor.

It'd be true to say that once the highside has started to happen, your involvement is minimal. The same almost certainly can't be said for the few seconds leading up to it.

In the end though, a lot of it is down to luck. I had a lovely moment on the Warwick Avenue / Harrow Road roundabout years ago when I found the whole thing covered with diesel. The only thing that kept me from falling off was sticking my right foot down and hoping for the best when both tyres started to slide. The only thing standing between a lowside, highside or just a regular brown-pants moment was lady luck and a roll of the dice and I was fortunate enough to come out the other side with nothing but a story to tell and a heart going boom-boody-boom.

I guess what I'm trying to say is it's fine to nearly have an off, but work on the story a bit. Add some dancing girls and maybe some Yakuza or something. A patch of diesel or black ice works wonders. "I fell off my bike" is rubbish. "I fell off my bike while fighting a horde of ninjas" is a bit more like it.

C-, see me after class.

What I want to know is, however you fall off, why the hell does it all go in slow motion, and why when your head bounces down the road in one direction, you can't keep your eyes off where your bikes going to stop in the opposite theres a moment there when all you can think of, is not yourself, but the damn bike

There is an old saying among the mountain bikers...

If you do not crash once per ride, you are not going hard enough.

Yeah, well show me a mountain biker that regularly sees 150 on the clock.

I would've thought there'd be one on the road as well if it was a highside
