Na, religion is a relic left behind from a time when it was used to control people with fear (E.G. Rome used Christianity to regain control ove the people, it was going under before they used the religion). Ofcourse back then people weren't well educated and the simplistic explanations in the bible were good enough for them.

As is said, the more educated a people, the harder they are to control... This I think is becoming truer in Britain and this is why people are becoming less dependant on the Church and a "Greater being". People are more willing to think things through and come up with their own conclusions, and understand other people's. Thus meaning that simplaistic answers arn't enough, so simple they are obviously flawed.

Most people who still do do religion normally drop these simple explanations and idea's, lose anything off of the bible that is obviously wrong and basically follow the core idea's that cant be disproved. The things that take faith alone. This is where you get the split, those that are faithful, blindly I suppose, and those that think "If that bits wrong... who's to say the rest isn't"? I think there are more people now in the latter, as shown in the poll.

I guess ultimatly education is what has undermined religion and the God theory.

Hope that write up didn't offend anyone, it wasnt intended to, it is just how it appears to be.

Greek, it doesn't offend me, but I disagree.

I think you give people more credit than is due, and without a little bit of fear they become practically feral. And in todays society where the rule of law is hardly respected and definitely not feared either, then the demise of religion is no good thing.

True true. But that is also down to the police often not having the power to do anything about it and if they can often dont. People arnt scared of the reprocussions because there often arn't any. Also the people who are the problems are generally the ones who have little/no hope so dont care, the types that are brought up with nothing and have no aims in life. The scumm that are the modern chavv/estate bratt (generalising). We need to give them hope and aims... But the government doesnt seem interested in doing this. They are more interested in doing it in other countries.

Perhapse if these people got hope and fear from Religion they might be better people... I dont know.

I would be more worried of the person/personality of someone that requires constant fear of an imaginary repercussion to do "good".

I have no fear of "the wrath of 'God' " but that doesn't mean I'm going to go on a killing spree, if that's all that is stopping the demise of modern society we haven't 'evolved' at all.
