A tip I was given at a Pharmacy when I went in with a small spot (stye) in my eye was to rub my wedding ring on it. The gold in the ring did the same job as that golden eye oinkment.

It did work, the spot went down & no more irritation

much thankyou, I think the thought of it having to go back to a&e to be prodded a bit more has scared it, it's behaving now

Cheers for the advice guys and girlies, luckily nothing major this time. I'm quite touched by people's kindness though, even a couple of people in lectures who don't know me that well asked if it was better! Most reassuring that there are lovely people about
