Yep....melolin is the one I have in my first aid kit that I would/have used on many occasions.

TBH, it has to be something really pretty serious for me to go to A&E. I fell downstairs when I lived alone as one of the dogs left a toy two steps from the top. I partially dislocated my knee which is not very common, was lying at the bottom of the stairs, called NHS Direct (like I always do if I'm not sure what to do as wouldn't want to waste A&E time) and what a horrible call it was.

The doctor i got put through to asked if I could move my leg at the ankle and knee. As I lifted my leg to move my ankle, my knee popped back in......WOWthat hurt! I couldn't speak for pain, dropped the phone and after listening to me screaming, then complete silence as I could only just concentrate on breathing in and out, the doctor called an ambulance to to my house and when I regained the ability to move, I picked up the phone, he was still there and thought I had passed out. Ambulance came, my knee was the size of a football....literally (not just saying that) and I was in for the afternoon having x rays and ultrasounds.

All ok in the end, just some heavy strapping, supports and crutches for 13 weeks!!!

Boiled potato peel is a great burn remedy apparently.

+1.

Since the injured party didn't have first aid equipment & thought it worthy of posting about in the first place (which implies some sort of concern at the least), medically trained professionals are the only people really to get advice from.

Given the time of the OP, the only place to get that opinion from would of been A&E. At least around here, but then I'm quite out in the sticks.

If Darren had of gone to A&E only to be turned away because it's a minor injury, at least someone would of looked at it & given advice at the very least.

I'm very very stubborn when it comes to A&E & me being injured, in the past, I've sat with both a broken wrist & ankle, knowing both were broken, until I felt ready to go to hospital. But if I were unsure about something, I'd get advice from someone I trusted.
