Stick a 170 on and it will square off faster because it will be pinched a lot more.

I have never had more than 800 miles to a rear tyre on my SV , doesnt really bother me as thats what bikes are for having fun.

Currently trying out my first sports touring the AVON AV56 Storm. I will report back on how many miles it does.

Then you my friend, need to take a serious look at your riding if that doesn't include trackdays

WTF! do you do rolling burnouts on all your journeys

I checked my depths yesterday after just under 3k miles my tyres have done and front sides have 1.7mm and middle is over 2mm

Rear sides 5mm middle 3mm

I think it is a combination of riding styles.

I have done 2 trackdays and had 2 summers worth of riding and there is still tread left in my metzeler z6. On the trackday some people were amazed by that fact especially after overtaking them.

Riding style- sounds about right.

If you ride like Lewis Hamilton drives, then your tyres will shred like his!

If you ride like Jenson Button drives, your tyres will experience everlasing joy!

I guess its tyre types too- the OP compares same tyres with other riders, but there's a difference between the rubber on sport and sport touring tyres- touring will last much longer.

I got about 8-9000 from my rear 020 (it was illegal when changed, but not down to canvas. Done that before. >shudders!<). Front is still going. Reckon I've got about another 1-1.5k miles left on it.

Got an 021 on the back- claimed 10% more mileage. So should last until about June/July next year.

I commute mostly on mine- but I do love the acceleration, so could probably get another 1000 out of the rear if I was smoother. Breaking- I prefer to use the engine, but depends on the situation.

You don't have to ride like a grandad, just have to be a bit smooth... Kitkat mentions up the page that she gets loads of miles, but doesn't mention how she did it- she just doesn't slow down for the corners so she doesn't have to accelerate or brake I burned a sportec rear in about 2000 miles one summer, but I get about 8000-9000 from a Strada or similiar.

Tyre pressures make a big difference.too- a lot of people run the ST rubber at higher pressures, I find it makes them (well, the stradas and roadtecs that I've used lately) more stable without sacrificing grip, so I run the rear usually at 39psi (I once dropped the roadtec to 33 as recommended at a trackday and it was horrible, felt flexy and wobbly on the power, so offputting I was hitting the end of the straight about 10mph slower than I would usually and losing several seconds a lap as I was never happy to gun it out of corners)

I have a feeling that the road attacks don't take well to harder riding, having seen a couple of sets basically melt on track- I chased a guy on a 600 of some sort for most of a session, me on roadtecs and him on road attacks, at the end his tyres looked like a melted candle and mine were barely smeared. He lost a load of pace towards the end of the session and said afterwards that he was sliding about all over the place. But, that's not very scientific of course!
