As others have eluded to, but haven't really been specific, many MP3s are actually superior to CD's in terms of quality. If you have a decent hifi, it should be able to play MP3's as well as regular audio CDs.

Although if the MP3 encoding was from a CD source, then it can't be any better, irrespective of sampling rate.

Certainly tis only a few but...
I have known a bloke who downloaded tons and tons of music and sold pirated albums on CD's. Often with the same pic on the front. About 10 or 15 a day while at his regular job.
They went for about 1/2 price of the legal version.
So yes.... he was making a good bit of money doing it as well.

It's these kind of people that cause problems.




Like others... I have a small amount of music downloaded but would say in my case they haven't lost much, if any, sales.
For the most part music I haven't already bought (or thinking about buying) I wouldn't spend the money on to hear.

So in France, not only do you get fines of upto 3,000-EUR and disconnected but still have to pay for your connection on the say so of the music industry...you don't even get told what or when your alleged infringment was!

Quite true, and MP3's made from CD's are generally pretty poor in comparison to CD's.

But not all MP3's are sourced from CD. What I should of said is that MP3's have the scope to be better quality than CD. But I accept your point.
