Seems like I used a POOR example!

Firstly please note the title of the thread.

I meant ANYONE in jobs, life etc... seems everyone has to be so serious and miserable and worried about what others are doing rather than seeing the fun in it.

Some of the comments on here prove that irrevocably and to be honest, I understand how people hate the police but this is not really about police, its about WHY things have changed so much that people just love to have a go.

Why cant everyone lighten up a bit and have a bit of fun sometimes ( I appreciate that there is a time for work and a time for play but why does everyone have to be so bitter and twisted these days).

We really don't have the choice just to go home once we have put our hours in. If there is something on going, we have to stay and deal with it. We also don't have the choice of not going to court on our rest days, or getting called into work on our rest days, or having to go to court in the middle of our annual leave. Or getting phoned at 4am and asked to start dayshift at 5 instead of 8.

Maybe I won't next time?

Of course I will, and I will do it for the next 31 years of my service.

If you contracted in overtime hours, flexibility, shift extentions, call outs etc, then you would be being paid.

Trying to convince people to swap out of overtime schemes is very difficult.

Ours wasn't really an option, it was a take it or leave it, but now everyone probrably wouldn't go back to overtime.

The people who don't get paid enough are the Ambulance, Nurses & Firefighters IMHO

Actually it doesn't, sadly on or off duty you are held responsible and liable for everything you say or do.

As has been mentioned in a previous thread, technically there is no such things as being off-duty when you are a Police officer. That is why we have rest days as opposed to days off.

Rest days!!! What the hell is that????

I dont get a rest day and being self-employed if I take holiday I dont get paid.

But a few minutes on a bloody sledge - even if you worked for the Inland Revenue (*spit*) I wouldnt begrudge you that.
