Of the two i'd say the 750 because I've read reviews sayin they are a more comfortable sports bike..... Don't know how true this is though

Anywho buy a sprint! You know it makes sense
My dad finds his GSXR750 quite comfortable, he's been around europe on it, spending several hours in the saddle at a time. I guess being a light bike and a powerfull bike, its easy to handle and dosn't wear you out

Those R1's are rapid! My Dad had one before he wrote it off - I used to think I was going quick on my 33bhp SV then he just flew past me. I think he said he had the throttle fully open once, on the Autobahn in Germany. See the album in my profile for how it ended it!

I would love though!

Because he wants to.

The long and short of it is, it's YOUR life, make it what YOU want.

If you want something crazy fast, go for it, scare the hell out of yourself or maybe not, then maybe you may see the light and step back down a little (I have mucho respect for people that do this), but TBH I don't think there is a mahoooosive difference between an R1 and a GSXR 750 performance wise.

Ragging the t*ts off a SS600 is a little more fun, your really pushing this thing to what it can do, a litre sports bike, your not really going to push its capabilities until you get on track. I want a litre sports bike at some point to say I've had one.

I bought a Honda Blackbird last year and I found the insane performance too available - I had 180mph on the speedo more times than I should and in the end realised that to get the excitement I wanted to feel from the bike it meant opening it up and feeling that thrust (which puts you in jail time territory). I swapped it for an SV1000 and I couldn't be happier - its nowhere near as fast but for me the performance is much more usable. Someone somewhere in a bike magazine said that 100hp is all you will ever need on the road -I think that's somewhere near true - but perhaps I would up that to 120bhp

Bob Bobbleton on here had an '07 R1 from new, a number of issues with it, play in the swingarm bearing, buckled wheels etc. He chopped it in for a brand new Blade due to all the issues he had with it, so I'd avoid the 07/08 model of the R1.

As for the 750, they're nice

My 750 used less fuel than the 600 on this tour.

It'll also go round a track too:

Only difference is the position of the pegs and tyres fitted. An awesome do it all bike, but get what you want....

Tim, that seems quite uncharacteristic of yamaha's i always had them down as quite well made!

As for the fuel consumption, a couple of years back me and my dad rode to brands hatch together and back. When we filled up near home (both started on full tanks on the way there), he had only used slightly more fuel than me, despite having used more of his avaliable performance. I was dead impressed

Tim, out of interest, what kind of mileage are you getting from a tank? MPG?

I like the fact that people keep saying this, i think it would be good to have a bike like that, that you could quite happily tour on and then take it to a track day as well.

*thats a mighty fine 750 you have there tim.

I know you frequent the Nordschleife quite often, whats it like round there?

Ride magazine did a piece on the GSXR750 a few months back which I would summarise as "an excellent bike that can comfortably be used for touring and commuting as well as blasting round the track".
