I am looking at a new phone too. I'm HTC fan...want something shiny....and qwerty keypad...so will get Desire Z.
iPhone deals are much more expensive so not exactly hard decision to go Z. Smartphones go thru battery power like an elephant and sticky buns. Always fearful that one day when u need it in an emergency that it is dead due to heavy use. Anyways, I also have a very basic backup Nokia which is an excellent mobile telephone. Good battery life and good call quality. Snake gets a bit boring after a while though. |

So there you have it...about as clar as mud
![]() HTC are the Iphones main competor and the Desire now comes in many flavours. Desire, DesireHD, HD7(windows), Z etc etc. I did seriously look at a IP4 but it was the cost of the contract that swayed me to the Desire which is a great phone. Browsing like all these phones depends on signal strength. When on wifi its great. Battery life as stated can be dire. There are widgets that allow you to power manage the phone, but its mainly the screen size that kills the phoens. Either a spare battery, or as someone said a cheap phone.. The GUI on the iphone looks great however, the Android OS is just as good and as easy to navigate and Capcake is due out soon (Android 3.0) which has more improvements. The decision is yours, but find a decent shop and get them to let you play with both types of phone, as it will come down to personal preference. Just remember that if you want the best browsing experiemce, then its going to be Android as they allow ALL contant to be shown and not restict what you look at like what apple do. Just remember your quote on FB the ohter day about freedom of the NET. |

HTC are great phones. Iphone if you want the apps. I have a Blackberry Storm 2. OK phone but struggles with a signal sometimes. Better since T Mobile let me use the Orange signal as well but wouldn't get another one.

The only way to choose the phone for you is get your a$$ in the phone shops and have a fiddle with all thats available. Only you can decide which phone will do it for ya really. |

You're not wrong there mate...
![]() ![]() ![]() Still, seems as though the top two worth considering are the Iphone and the Desire, might nip down the Vodafone shop and see if they'll let me have a play with some models before I make a choice...

have a look on www.gsmarena.com great for phone stuff in general. It has already been said iPhone great gadget, but that dosn't make a good phone. the desire, my dad and brother in law both have them, and i have to say i am quite impressed with them. Top of my list for the upgrade.

The desire is a great phone but it's been updated to the desire HD or Z. The Samsung Galaxy S is brilliant and have now sold 10 million world wide but thats been updated to the New nexus s, which is the one to get.
iphone 4 are user friendly but the tech in them is no where near as good as the latest android devices. If you are doing a lot of business on the phone you could consider the latest blackberry devices, also very good. It's complicated picking a phone, isn't it. |

Just a bit...
![]() If someone asked me to build them a new PC I could have researched and ordered the right components for their build in 24hrs, but find a bloody phone that does what you want without inciting rampant fanboyism??? Forgedaboudit!!! ![]() I heard tell of the new Nexus, but didn't really look into it, excuse my ignorance but it's basically a rebadged model from Samsung isn't it?

What, statistics? Google "iphone 4 problem" 90,800,000 results, "HTC desire problem" 1,180,000 results. God knows who sold more though, probably more apples out there due to fashion and lots of people just using them as a phone.
I'd just second whoever said to have a backup phone too, for a fiver you can get a bulletproof one with good battery life as backup.

Desire HD owner here...
Things I like about it: Screen - big & clear, coming from a HTC Hero it is a huge improvement, makes using the on-screen keyboard etc very easy. Also makes browsing the internet easy compared to a laptop / desktop - the Hero was ok but IMO the screen was still to small to make internet browsing properly viable. Talking of the internet, the DHD has full Flash support ![]() It has been very reliable so far, there are issues reported by some users at XDA-Developers forums but I haven't experienced any. Battery life is pretty good for a smartphone, though still needs a charge each night. In my case the battery is usually about 30-40% remaining at the end of the average day. The Google 'cloud' - this is a big plus for me. Sign up for a Gmail account and get push email, plus you can edit contacts, calendar events etc from any other computer, anywhere (if it happens to be handier than using the phone itself at the time) and it all just syncs wirelessly. I have not had to use a data cable once. When I upgraded from the Hero to the DHD i just entered my Google account login on the new phone and all my contacts, emails, calendar were synced to the new phone within seconds. HTC Sense - you get free use of the HTC Sense website which lets you do stuff like make the phone ring at max volume if you've left it down the back of the sofa on 'silent', lock it remotely if it's lost / stolen, back up your SMS / MMS messages. Music / Video: if you want to use it as a music / video player while you're on the move, the DHD can play just about any format you throw at it e.g. DivX / Xvid, Ogg vorbis etc (with the right app ofc) and it's drag & drop onto a MicroSD card - no need to convert anything or use iT*nes! There's probably more, PM me if you want to know anything else ![]() Last edited by El Saxo; 08-01-11 at 01:46 PM. |
