Lots of the usual sanctimonious bollox spouted on here I see. Many have mentioned or even dare i say compared the two news events (oslo being the other) and whine how this woman is getting the coverage. I find it ironic and almost amusing that none of you have bothered to start a thread discussing the Oslo tragedy, just happy to hijack this one.
For them that consider her a waste of space and have no sympathy, firstly your empathy as a fellow human being is to be applauded and secondly how's about reading up on adicts? Doing a little homework? What they go through be they users of drugs, alcohol, whatever, you may find yourselves with a little more sympathy. You may want to read this, Im not a fan of the bloke but know he was an adict himself and its quite a good piece http://uk.omg.yahoo.com/gossip/110--...102010167.html but on the other hand you many just see that its that bloke on telly you dont like and ignore it and continue your narrow view |

Brand himself says in that (very good) piece that the media is and was more concerned with her bad side than her good. In a number of ways Amy Winehouse in the media was completely separate to Amy Winehouse the singer. |

They knew the score before they started - smack, crack and a number of other drugs are highly publicised potential killers so don't expect me to feel any kind of sympathy whatsoever when they were perfectly aware of the possible consequences of their actions. Some of my old schoolmates got into drugs, two of them are now dead and another two have been in and out of rehab centres for over 20 years. When we were at school they were all great blokes, now the surviving ones are morons. I don't feel any sympathy towards them either. I certainly didn't think they were brave or clever and go round to congratulate them when they finally stopped hitting up with used needles in public loos, I still thought they were pathetic individuals for getting into that state in the first place. I'm nearly 50 years old and drugs were a bigger and easier thing to get into when I was a teenager, so I don't need some wooly liberal preaching to me about how I should act towards druggies. Maybe he or she should be out there on the streets or in schools talking to youngsters about how to avoid getting into that trap before it's too late for them. Rant over - slate me all you like for my views, I don't give a monkey's because it's impossible to argue with fact. |

I bought her records because I like her music. I'll still play them, no more or no less than before. What she did in her spare time is up to her.

I don't have sympathy with all addicts, some I have no sympathy for at all. But the ones that you can see are in pain, proper pain not just "Dr, I need some diazepam because my life is so messed up" pain, I do sympathise with. You have no idea what has happened to drive someone to become addicted to a substance, legal or otherwise. It is human nature to do anything possible to dull the pain. Unfortunately, some people are weaker than others. Do you feel sympathy for someone who feels a pain so strongly they take their own life? I do, it saddens me. And therefore it would hypocritical of me not to feel sympathy for Amy Winehouse or any other addict of her ilk, as effectively what she has done is committed a long, drawn out suicide. Indeed, it may have been suicide, rather than accidental overdose. We don't know yet. |
