OK Ralph, I concede I was being a bit of a devils advocate around the interpretation of the Highway Code, but I'm glad we agree on the above.
Cheers, RH.

But that's a good way to be in life generally, a bit of consideration as to what impact our actions have on others.

And RH, what you having a go at Audi drivers for
As to the thread, i'd say most of these problems are caused by people not anticipating that the truck is going to overtake, when usually is blatently obviouse, and if it's not so what, chill your beans, kick back have another beer and wait for him to finish his race, Ps i do have c+e on my liscence.

One thing I was always taught about overtaking is to be aware of the "closing gap"
That is if the vehicle you are about to pass is closing on the vehicle in front of it there is a good chance it will want to pull out,and it might do it suddenly.

I think I've got to that stage in life where I'm not letting other people's bad driving affect me. Having had one mild stroke I'm not about to push myself towards another one, so nowadays when someone pulls out on me for an overtake, rather than brake like mad and get all worked up about it, I just cog down one and go for the gap between them and the vehicle they're overtaking. Certainly makes them jump when it happens and maybe... just maybe they'll realise for next time that bikes coming up behind them are going a bit faster than they anticipated.

What I'd like to know is, why do truck drivers wait there behind the other vehicle until you're about 25 yards away and then suddenly pull out? Surely they've checked their mirrors well in advance, cos I know how well trained you need to be to get an LGV licence nowadays, so what is it with them? They know you're there, they've seen you coming from far away, but they wait until you've got virtually no stopping distance before they fill all the available space in the road with 40 tonnes of Tampax. I can appreciate that women the country over are grateful for the rapid delivery of their favourite monthly consumable, but I think they might be a bit upset to know their continued menstrual hygiene was at the expense of a fit healthy and dashingly good looking bloke's life.

Because they can't be sure it's you until you get that close?
