But all it takes is one person to see one of squirells pics or be intrigued with one line of a review and there's a sale for someone and all his "residual value" damage paid off...

I agree with this, as I'm sure a lot of us would. But I have to say that I chose my GSX after a dealer* let me out for a no pressure test ride, not sure I'd have been as impressed if I'd been asked to leave a deposit or be accompanied. Ended up buying a good used example of the bike elsewhere but the dealer was happy as he probably knew I'd be back one day (as I will) for service, clothing or another bike. Plus I'm happy to recommend them as nice guys. Shame he didn't have the right stock at the time.

Got to try two other bikes while I was there that afternoon, both of which sell extremely well. Neither were right for me though once I'd riden them, but both had their plus points which I have mentioned to others. The word of mouth and PR benefit was worth it for that dealer.
