@Mavic, indeed - the BBC for all its virtues has become pretty terrible, even in my short lifetime! Sensationalist rubbish, poor studio presentation and littered with one sided and incomplete news stories. You gotta feel for the reporters out there who are genuinely trying to make a difference!

How the heck the police/security services keep on top of all this madness I have no idea - frankly I'm amazed that something like this doesn't happen every week. Well done to the boys & girls in blue (and suits!)

Yes, they had an ex M15 officer on the Breakfast program, who said that to do 24hr surveillance on ONE suspect would take between 20 - 50 officers.

So for 2 suspects 40 - 100 staff, this guy said there were approx 2000 suspects known to them, so thats 40,000 MI5 officers needed to do 24hrs surveillance on all the KNOWN activists.

Thats before applying for surveillance authorization, they need to have evidence to do this.

I think these reporters think it is done just like in the movies, get a spy satellite, couple of operatives on the ground and the bad guys incriminate themselves within an hour and a half (avg movie time).

Its not just the TV, radio is just as bad, Jeremy Vine is the worst

Surveillance is very man power intensive as you stated some people really have no understanding of what's needed to do the job these guys do!

Sometimes he comes out with something blindingly intelligent and I think he must just be playing to the lowest common denominator the rest of the time... Other times I agree,

Yes, agreed.

For someone who went to Cambridge Uni, his questions are aimed at the very stupid end

BBC dumbing down again

The BBC and other news organisations have asked some questions about what MI5 knew.
But as stated above the BBC also had a former MI5 officer on their program who explained what sort of manpower would be required to keep tabs on all these suspects and it was shown to be impossible.Id say that was fairly balanced reporting.

Sort of, although the 6 o'clock news report didn't give that impression, it was implied that MI5 should have done something about it
