I once got told 'I could do you for careless or with due care(can't remember) for trying to get your knee down. Only problem was I was wearing a pair of jeans

Best was one that cut me up really badly.I had to literally stand on the brakes to avoid a collision. As I went past I accidentally knocked my 'kill switch' to the 'off' position so had to flick it back on .

Set of lights and he wound the window down , shouting blah , blah , blah and flashing his warrant card. I looked at him and said Em.. so what. You want a Fooking medal?'. I mean you have just almost sent me down.

Lights changed and I let him drive off , memorised his number just in case.

Cheers
Ben

Isn't it a known fact that all this number plate action is to allow the new number plate recognition cameras to do their awful job properly .
Nope. The cameras work perfectly well on small plates, down to ridiculously small size (IIRC the design spec calls for 99% accuracy down to 50% of standard character size, and there's an angle involved as well). The only thing that defeats them reliably is radically different characters, from what I hear.

Not a chance - my attitude was sweetness and light and very friendly (you don't get a PhD by being stupid!) No lip, no moaning or anything. There was no way he was going to let me off - it was absolute zero tolerance.

This is the core thing that annoyed me - not that I got done for the plate (which I knew was illegal and I knew could get me a fine - and no I won't change it) but that despite the fact that I was probably the most sensible, safe, steady and least-likely-to-kill-himself rider they'd seen that day and yet still there was no let off with a caution - perhaps a producer to show I'd fixed the plate. THAT'S what makes my blood boil.

Nonsense - once the fine is paid, the offence is wiped from your record. That was made very clear.

I got stopped 3 days after buying the GSXR it was tipping with rain, I'd got caught out in it and hadnt had time to stop and put my clear visor on. Also the GSXR has an unbaffled Yoshimura on it which I doubt is road legal.

The policeman waved me into the kerb and motioned and me to flip my visor up. I did so and switched the bike off. He started to explain why he'd stopped me but I coudnt hear him so I said that I had ear plugs in and he said "OK take off your lid and your earplugs and I''ll come back in a minute"

Once I had done this, he said to me"Its ok mate your not in trouble" ( I must have looked like I was sh*ting myself, because I was, I had all sorts of thoughts about my bike being new and it not being on the DVLA database etc etc ) They were stopping people doing random checks for tax and insurance.

He handed me a piece of paper and said that explains why I've stopped you. Read it when you get home I dont want to delay you any longer than I have to. He then asked me a few questions, Was the bike mine, Was it registered to me. Did I have my license on me. I answered his questions politely and gave him my license, He asked where the tax disc was or did I have it at home. I pointed the tax disk out. He had a quick look round my bike didnt say a word about my can or visor. He then apoligised for delaying me and then after I had put my lid and everything back on. He waved me out into the traffic when there was a gap. He and his colleague gave me a little wave as I rode away.

Cant say fairer than that. Policeman are humans to maybe the guy that pulled you over was having a bad day. Or was just a pratt. It does happen.

Personally I wouldnt bother complaining its not worth the hassle just take it on the chin. If you are that worried about it put your bike back to standard.

Fizz is right about most coppers being human (to at least some extent).

You can avoid a lot of hastle right at the start by being polite, etc, and losing any "attitude" you might have.

To stand a better change of getting away with the "little naughties" that many of do (yes, even me ) like black visors, loud cans etc (i.e. the FPN stuff rather than the endorsibile) it helps if you have your licence (both parts) and other docs with you.

This will negate the need for them to get their pen out for the seemingly obligatory "producer" and so they might not bother to get it out for the tedious paperwork associated minor stuff.

Obviously, there are no guarantees so don't sue me

Professionals dont do bad days. For the police its no excuse at all. Exemplary conduct at all times. Doesnt seem to happen tho, does it.
