If you're in a turn and lock the rear up, riding it out's generally not an option since you'll go out the outside of the turn!

Unlucky Shell. I wobbled like a loony on my U turn but just managed to get round. dont beat yourself up to much, I think this is a very common worry for most on the test. You will do it and then it will be fun fun fun.

(p.s. the irony is you will probably never u turn again after the test)

There's no doubt it's situation-dependent. Your speed, where you are on the turn, whether you can go wide safely, etc. On a wide sweeper you may be able to stand it up and do an emergency stop.

Your point is well taken -- it's no more sensible to say "always keep it locked" than it is to say "always let it spin".

for Shell.

Nevermind, practice makes perfect. Just remember that if you HAVE to put a foot down in a U-turn, if it's only a quick dab for confidence, it's a minor not major fault

Good luck! (And as it works out, I won't be down that way for the NEC We're taking the kids for a long weekend at Alton Towers bonfire night weekend - so I'll be stuck in the car that weekend)

And if you do, you can use your foot all you like (I do!)

Ah the lovely U-turn -

don't be afraid of the gas!
Noise is good.

Constant revs, control how much of it gets delivered with the clutch.

so if you're falling inwards, let out the clutch a bit-the revs are already there.

good luck on the next one

Thanks guys for your support.

I have arranged to go to see the guys at Police HQ and see the guys who do BikeSafe, one of my mates there is gonna show me how to do them properly ..... he muist be confirdent as he is letting me use his bike after I told him I dropped mine LOL

Then I am off to the car park at the Bike place on Monday and Tuesday to get some practice in .. so I am keen and WILL crack these damn U-turns.

I really am itching to get on Sukie (my SV) .. she is lonely in the garage,

Shelly, practice is the best thing - I used to go out on my 125 everynight after training and U turn every single road on the estate where I live - I sailed through the U turn on my first test, (but failed on other things )

Whilst waiting for my second test I rode the 125 every day again practicing the U turns to keep them polished and on the second test (which I passed) sailed through the U turn again. Keep it up and good luck! Just think once youve passed you'll never need to bother with them again!! (having said that I did one today cos I was following the old man - but it was rubbish - I need to practice them again )

You can do it
