Anyhoo, bearing in mind we do/did it for different reasons, out of interest, can you articulate to me what it is about racing that you find 'fun'???
The whole thing is fun. All the very good friends that i have made over the years spending the weekend with them in the paddock, the whole paddock atmosphere, obviously the actually riding on track, beating ones goals, the adrenaline rush, the banter...everything barring the visa card bill at the end of every month and the drive home!

Hoy, Blue, I'll lend you mine, then all you'd have to worry about is the wheels, and the better set up suspension, and the weight reduction, and the 5-10bhp power boost, and the development time- but mine's already a bit ahead of the Minitwins I'd challenge you all, but unfortunately I'm s***e.

Incidentally, have you ever noticed that the people who say "It doesn't matter how good you are" always has a good bike My question is, if you can keep up on a mintwin legal bike, why spend the money to push the Thunderbikes spec? After all, if you're fast enough you can compete no matter what bike you're on

Having said that... Just because you don't find fun in it, doesn't make it not fun- it takes all sorts.

It does take all sorts.

There is also a saying of..doesnt matter what you have its how you ride it that makes the difference...well i think that relates to racing either that or the guy that keeps beating me on a lesser powered bike is chatting me up

Northwind – As usual spotted it … its very easy to say this sort of stuff with the upper hand … will you take me on so keenly if I could use my racebike SV650Racer?!?! If you have the GIXER front end and that power, I’d say that was a more even match than my SV verses your SV

Beating someone as the underdog is always a good feeling … getting out-machined is soul destroying … I spent my entire race career experiencing both of those!!!

I actually dislike the paddock as a whole, people are only out for themselves and their close friends … very rude and very inconsiderate. Its far too cliquey, to be honest the paddock ignorance is another contributor to me calling it quits. But you are right, a race weekend was like a mini holiday for me and my team – Barbie and a beer on a summers evening after a hard days racing and all that was ace.

The adrenalin thing can’t really be classed as ‘fun’ as adrenaline is the body’s reaction to fear … so by definition cannot be classed as ‘fun’ … but yes the adrenaline side of things is a real draw!

Sounds to me you are more in it for the social than the racing

Well being in the paddock for over ten years i have yet to experience a rude person or any clique. In fact i dont recall anyone at all being inconsiderate!. Obviously in life you dont get on with everyone but from what you have said i wonder why you felt the paddock was the way it was.i cant understand how someone couldnt gel with like minded people there.. ..

Yes i enjoy the social as you know racing takes alot of time and money meaning socials in between are few and far between. So in equal amounts i love the social as much as the riding. If i stopped racing id still be involved in some way or another. I have made alot of friends, true friends..and lost a good one along the way too...you see and meet alot of different people all who have the same thing in common. I really could also write a book about what goes on in the paddock..its so funny!.

Adrenaline rushes..fun..oh yes!..why else would anyone have a bike..and ride on track or compete in extreme sports...its that fear that gives the buzz!.

Ok, that was bordering on an insult, not just observation (sorry, but your attitude makes me so mad!! ), so I will I will give basic and generic example ... how many times have you saved or been saved paddock or garage space???

I say again, adrenaline cannot by definition be classed as fun ... addictive - yes, reason alone to do it - yes, fun - no

*Don't mind the "I bet I can beat you" banter, that's all part of the game, I love all that but the condescending tone is something quite different and what I am opposing here

er sorry but i was going to hold off but i think you have a slight problem!. Mutal respect to a fellow racer - who is that then i have shown no respect...chunks?...cause he is the only fellow racer i see on this thread and one that i will be helping this year by means of feeding him, providing him with a bed and awning space.

I never say anything to be condesending and for it to be taken as so i suggest you need to sort yourself out!. Crikes no wonder you didnt get one with anyone in the paddock!.

FYI - as many others will tell you, at every meeting i make sure i am there to save a garage for as many as ten people at Brands. When there are no garages i have always made our awning available for any racers that dont have one. I even lent someone my exhaust once between races so that they could get out after they had crashed. Helping others is something i take much pride in and what you have said is very insulting and i dont feel i have to further justify myself to someone who clearly cant take a post any other way!!.

I think that its possibly best then in that case if you dont come back as that attitude is not wanted in the paddock. Everyone i know that races takes everyone as they are, fits in and help each other. Thats being part of the community...i now know why you found that so hard.

LOL...i didnt want to post this but you left me no choice!. Your one crazy guy!

Jeez!!!

This is beyond a joke now.

Sarah and everyone else in the paddock are a truely great bunch. Okay i can see where the whole ''clique'' thing comes from but it's not a bad thing. to me the cliques are normally just a class grouping together in a corner of a paddock like the sidecars or MZ's they are always set up together like a mini community within a bigger one. This isnt a bad thing though as it helps everyone when they need help as they all chip in together and help out.

I many times this year went off and helped someone else as they didnt know how to fix there problem whern i could have quite happily taken the view that they were my ''boss's'' rival so they can go whistle, but no you go and offer what you can because your all in it together. from the lowly guy with nothing more than a standard bike arriving on a trailer and nothing else all the way through to the top riders with teams around them ans sponsers coming out there ears, everyone single person gets the help they need. If you didnt i can only assume there was something about you that made people not want to be near you!

Now tbh i cant be arsed with this anymore as i dont think anything myself or sarah could possiby say will change your close minded view things

TBH, I've seen plenty of comments you've made on here that could be seen as concescending or superior, but having chatted with you a few times here and on Visordown I'm sure it's not meant like that. You have a way of stating an opinion as fact And when you do get called out for being wrong, well, you're not so fast to back down as you are to come out with the statement in the first place. I think Blue takes you wrong but I can see why it'd happen.

No offence meant, just sitting on the fence as usual

I'd say dismissing him as not a racer's pretty rude, though, just because someone's not actively racing doesn't mean anything- it's obviously still in the blood, and he's got the experience and the understanding. You wouldn't tell Foggy he's not a racer, would you? Or maybe you would... Not sure. But I doubt he'd be too chuffed
