Re: Vintage film cameras
I know right. Also, the Outlet SRT303 works fine. Got a dent in the prism hump but a small bit of wood after taking the top plate off has solved that, just a ripple instead of a dent.
Oh, the serial number on the lens falls between the serial number range for 1937/1938

Re: Vintage film cameras
Nice bit of history to the Contax. And the 303 is the best of the SRT range. You've done well.

Re: Vintage film cameras
I was actually going to swipe the prism for the XE1 but the cds cells are glued to the prism. Reused the lens you sent me so all is good. Shame I can't price the history, but it's pretty compelling.

Re: Vintage film cameras
Shot from my Kodak Pocket No.1 Folder. Taken at Beeston Regis Beach during our camping trip a few weeks ago. Had to straighten it a little as my framing was off.
A few from the OM1 50mm f3.5 macro

Re: Vintage film cameras
Some nice macro shots there. I discovered a set of Vivitar close up filters among all the discarded bits and bobs I have but they are 55mm!! Nothing fits. I need to look for a step down ring.
The Spotmatic is proving a disaster. After taking a few shots using the centre needle metering, I actually glanced at the shutter and aperture settings to find it's way out. Working but not working. To make it worse, I keep forgetting to close the aperture down on the Helios after focussing. I'm not holding out much hope for the results, |

Re: Vintage film cameras
As far as I know the circuits in the Spotmatics are fairly resistant to differing battery voltages. The one I have here works fine with 1.5V cells. Does yours (or the combo with the Helios) not have automatic diaphragm closure? Without getting it out again, I think the SP500 does. I guess you'll find out how much latitude your film has.

Re: Vintage film cameras
I think the metering needs fixing Johnny. The needle moves and responds to changing light but it's not accurate. The battery is new and battery check shows it as fine. I've tried changing the ASA to get the exposure correct but then, the needle goes all over the place.
The Helios is the 44-2, a weird one. It's got 2 rings. One to set the aperture; the other opens the aperture fully to focus but needs closing down again before taking the photo, which is the bit I keep forgetting. |

Re: Vintage film cameras
Ah I see, I have a 450mm f8 like that. So yeah, it's non-auto.
