Biggles junior has just got a 748s.I rode it expecting a bit of a hard time, but I was very pleasantly surprised. Its very small but comfortable, and that extra something is there without doubt.Top quality suspension and chassis and a peach of a motor.Only a bit more powerful than an SV,and way lower than my ZX9R but it certainly has a feel to it so engine power is not an issue.
Then theres the iconic looks----

I'm so full of **** aren't I? [/QUOTE]

No, -Ralph-, you just sound lyrical and passionate and you appear to write with conviction. Lets face it, owning a bike isn't just based on rationality but it also involves a high dose of emotional attachment/feeling. Let me call this state 'the rationality of feeling'. Lets face it, if we were to base our decisions on what is purely practical we would all be driving cars.

As it stands, I personally love Ducatis. Its more a platonic thing with me. I just think they were designed by designers who knew how to draw and who followed the italian Renaissance tradition of aesthetics and draughtsmanship. In this context, the philosophical branch of 'aesthetics' has played a far more dominant role in Italian Universities than British.

Form follows function, I don't like pretty bikes as a general rule...

Pretty and Beautiful are not the same thing. As I've said before, and you'll probably gasp again, 'good design by its very nature is beautiful'.

'Busa?

And no they aren't, but the ducatis always look to me like a pretty boy type bike. As do the latest breed of speed triples sadly.

Ill start out with this... Im not a big Ducati fan. I appreciate them but they arnt for me (as I do too many miles tbh). BUT I obviously love the Italian bikes. They are something different something "special" and often you can make them more special, more personal. I love that. TBH I think the whole reliability of italian bikes is now a bit of a myth. Yes they have the odd quirk but often it isnt bad, its somthing that makes you smile, ads a little excitement. Something I havnt had with my 2 Jap bikes that felt like they were just cherned out, no care taken on making them. Built to a budget where the italian bikes are a bit like, lets make a bike this good, right how much will it cost. OK no problem

Aye, I respect peoples opinions... but I got to say your right. Ducati (V2) noise is the best around. End of.

No offence but to me they all look a little dull, maybe because they look so much like every other Jap race rep? Of course if you like them then fair enough Oh and the best looking modern Jap bike ive seen is the 05-06 Gixxer 1000. Looks so much better than any of the others.

Who from, I seriously think its something that the Jap's must try to use to their advantage. These days as long as you dont drop one or miss a service you are going to be in for a hastle free fun experience.

YC, you could never in a million years call Pete a 'pretty boy'

You just don't do pretty, except for your girlfriend.

No but the bike is a "pretty" one, rather than a functional one.

My favourite example, the speed triple T309, what did they do? Crashed a T309 daytona 900, stuck a single headlight on it and left it at that. Form follows function and whaddayakno it looks mean and functional.

1050 speed triple, they must have let some wop or a queer into the room or something because it's picked up loads of shiny crap that it doesn't need and looks like a girls bike.
