My SV never made any whine sounds but the Falco does. Basically all this is down to is the gear driven parts of the engine of which there are a lot. The Sv has generally quiet gears in the engine but there is a chance that the gears are a little noisy and put out a whine. Id say its nothing to worry about. Get out and ride it

If its a wistle kind of sound then look into the Suction tubes and maybe even look if one of the rubber nipples have come off.

Does it seem to effect performance at all?
Yeah it's kinda like the VFR whine, but having a listen now it definately sounds like the front cam bearings.

Definately not the vacuum system as there's no popping and banging, and its coming from the wrong place. Sounds mechanical.

only done about 300 miles since been back on the road. to be honest not got any worse or better. As above a definate mechanical noise. So you think front cam bearings. Is that an expensive/big job?

Cam bearings on dizzyblondes bike, yours seems different if it goes away when its on paddock stands.

As for being a hard job to do the cams, not really, about £50 for a new head and gasket and 2 hours to do it if that.

we had a good look today, cam chain fine, cam holders scored and cam bearings scored, that because my daft other half hittin the altermator plug with a impact driver, and me not noticing i had a leak. thus creating a low oil level, which I hoped hadn't got too low.

bearings whining. looks like a new head, but for now, some Zx1 has been put in, to see if it calms it temporarily

Yeah scored camshaft bearings. Not terminal yet, but they do need sorting so some Z1 oil additive has been dumped in to see if that helps!

sounds like all of these problems are appearing on y2k bikes i've just bought mine just got to wait for a a restrictor to be fitted then it's all mine. has anything you've found so far seem to be extremely costly or affecting performance, i will let know if i have similar issues.

so far its not been costly, I think we caught it before the whole lot went bang, could still happen, but it was starved of oil IMO for not very long, it wasn't run very often or far enough. Fingers crossed for now, it'll stay on a level until i can get a new head, I'm just going to keep an eye on the bearing whining, as from experience at where i work, they'll soon get louder ad give you notice before going completely.
and at the moment there is no shortage of oil in there, and around where it should be coating

Is it safe to remove the camshaft holders for inspection without upsetting the timing? or do you need to line all the marks up.
