When i started out i used to wear a 10 year old (when i got it) black open face lid with a bit of leather webbing inside and naff all else.
It was in for a repaint and i borrowed a Shoei full face (1st time ever in one) and i crashed - not the lids fault ok...LOL - but if i had been using an open face then i would'nt have a lower jaw just now. Anyway back on topic, well kinda. At that point i decided to go buy the best fitting most comfortable lid i could find and ended up trawling through some 50+ lids. Arai Quantum Fx was the one that felt the best, fitted the best and in titanium grey was the mutts nutts too. (Ok then they told me the price and i blew 2 weeks wages on it). Since then i have never been dissapointed with an Arai, have used OGK, Shoei and Simpson in between just to see if anything else comes close, but for my head nothing does. Ok its hype but its also 10+years of solid branding and imho good build quality, ok so im using a 2 star condor now but to be 100% honest, i'm still happy with it and will continue to be right up till i got to J&S later :P |

all the lids on sale in the uk have to pass some kind of testing to get a bsa stamp so even the cheap ones have to be of a certain standard?
anyway when euro ncap started testing cars and some manufacturers got poor scores they pronounced i as inaccurate and irrellavant but now they have to focus on it as people choose cars on that basis and we all know cars are massively safer than even ten years ago. there is talk of changing it to 7 stars to make the tests harder further raising the bar, this can only be good for safety. these results for helmets will do the same thing and force ingenious new ways to improve them which in turn could save someones life so they can only be good. |
