Meh.

It just means I'll be doing twice the speed limit when they finally bust me on the M3.

Yea... and I can see in the dark. Sigh. Lets just all walk everywhere and have done!

Speed is not an issue on the roads. We need a new government and need to start the rules again!!!

If these new rules come in, i might consider going on a ride of destruction/abduction of speed cameras. They'd make nice garden furniture.

Yeah, i seen a video of some Dutch guys (i think) putting expanding foam in the small hole at the rear of the 'safety' cameras...

On the brekky news this morning was a chap who was in the terrible situation of his daughter having been killed on a rural road; dreadful thinks I.

He wants the speed limit on rural roads reduced, not an argument I support let me make clear - there's far to much emphasis on speed, not enough on driving carefully and appropriately.

However as the story unfolds we find that the driver involved in the death had taken drugs, (unspecified), and was over the sixty limit, when asked about this there was no attempt to answer why a lower limit would have made any difference to the circumstance.

I have nothing but sympathy for the father, (and indeed for the entire family), but I'm struggling to understand why we are having this awful occurrence paraded about as a reason to later any legislation, I can't begin to imagine how I would feel in their position but I am entirely aware that he, and anyone else in that position, cannot possibly be objective, and that while this chap holds to his one dimensional crusade and casts about for a blamehound, the law may well be changed such that all are affected very probably to no benefit in that, and many other horrible situations.

Sid, with you entirely. The Shropshire Star reported this daft proposal last night with a quote from Man from the Ministry who said that no decisions had been made. Then we had a brief interview with some dozy old bat who is campaigning for improved safety measures on the A49 in south Shropshire who said yes that a reduced speed limit would 'help' but offered no reasons for this. In fact most accidents on theA49 are caused by poor junction layout and people overtaking on blind bends and I can't see how speed will resolve anything.

The problem is that these people with nothing better to do than poke their noses in other peoples' business won't give up and next they'll be wanting an even lower limit.

Thin end of wedge.

This is my stance. The whole principle on which our legal system is founded is a distant, dispassionate, uninvolved party acting as an arbiter for the simple reason that very few "victims" (and this includes those close to them) can come anywhere near to objectivity on the subject of how they have been wronged. The situation is made all the worse when the media plays this emotional angle and any detractors to this approach, particulary those making this criticism when the victim is present, are seen as heartless ****s.
