battery goes flat if loom is left plugged in, it doesn't charge well when engine is running (only 10/11volts instated of 14 volts) and battery will go flat after 20 miles of riding with dancing clocks and xmas lights...(i did checked the condition of charging volts two weeks ago and was good)

Worked around the loom to find the cause and found that if the rectifier is unplug, the battery stops draining, which brings me to the conclusion that it just 'could' be a duffed rectifier. then again it could be the three yellow wires between the reg and the alternator thingy.

a second-hand replacement is on the way to try the theory this wknd...

Is it possible for a rectifier to 'deteriorate'

In the best Churchill voice possible...'Ohhhh yessss'. I put a new one on one of mine after one went, it fudged that up, I replaced it with a CBR600F one and a new battery and there were no problemos.

Its also a good thing to rule out Lucas. When i had all my electric probs i was lucky enough that Empty's SV was off the road at the time and he knew his reg/rec was fine and kindly lent it to me for a week or so. Helped me discover that it wasn't the problem and the duff battery was.

Good luck mate, i hate electric problems with a vengance!
