Oh, if she wasn't emptying her anal glands, you'd not need to look at the poo to know about it , the dog would leak fluid into the base of the tail and it would stink!

Congrats to you both on your new pup Fizz

I'm not going to talk much carp about dogs as I think, a lot of folks(on few on here too) talk rubbish when it comes to dogs and you'd probably then have to lock your own thread....

Re food, here's a great tip for everyone.....

If your dog has a gleaming coat, is full of life with a sparkle in the eye and very little waste coming out at the waste end, you dont have much to worry about with regards to what you are feeding it...

If there is some medical need to hae their bits lopped off in the future then fair enough but other than that they'll be staying intact.
Also far too young for removal, lot of vets now doing at 5 months or earlier, can cause significant problems with development.
We've got a golden retriever who gets lots of exercise and is very happy. She went for the snip at 8 months.

No, would never breed, not what I want a dog for.

Perhaps not critical for male labs to get the chop as they aren't very aggressive dogs anyway.

More relevant to bitches as 1 in 4 unspayed ones do get ovarian cancer of which 50% turn malignant.

Sorry for derail, not offence meant, was just offering information and experiences relevant to puppies etc.
