Now, after being under the thumb when I was married (he never let me go anywhere on my own) I live by the rule that no-one, not even the person you're married to, has the right to dictate how you live your life, unless it's a threat to them (e.g. financially), and this now works perfectly with Mr Lou and I. I would never dream of telling him where he can or can't go, or what he can spend his money on. As long as the house hold bills are sorted, then the rest is his.
Never have joint bank accounts either, oh no, rocky road to ruin! |

Ralph, your approach is uncanny... it's the same as ours. It's a question of treating your other half with respect, but it's frustrating when they simply don't understand why you want to go out on any particular weekend. Wifey's into creative knitting at the moment and occaionally goes on a day course of a Saturday over at Ippikin (designer craft shop and gallery) at Much Wenlock and I always say 'yes of course you must go' but she freely admits that she doesn't understand why I 'want to ride around the countryside with a bunch of bikers on Easter Sunday instead of staying at home with me and Sophie'
