mix it up a little now, as i have started looking for myself as i have due an upgrade soon ish, has anyone got the samsung galaxy s? and what are oppinions.

I had a samsung omnia when they first came out. it was a great phone but the screen etc was a little before its time, and the tech needed improvement. I understand now however that the galaxy S has the best screen on the market, and hardware vastly improved over the iphone.

I'd just second whoever said to have a backup phone too, for a fiver you can get a bulletproof one with good battery life as backup.
thats a very accurate way of gathering information.

I have not had to use a data cable once. When I upgraded from the Hero to the DHD i just entered my Google account login on the new phone and all my contacts, emails, calendar were synced to the new phone within seconds.
Thats one of the things i really like to the ability to change calenders etc on any pc

I am having a problem with my GMail account, won't let me log into it from a PC. Might have to make a new account and then re enter all my calander dates etc.

Told you (not you Essex Dave) that there was a lot of people having issues with iphones, not just me.
Having said that, my mate next door has a 3GS on o2 the same as me and he has no issues whatsoever, so i do think that its sporadic.

As i said earlier in this thread, as a gadget they are good, i like them in that respect, as a phone, which i need more tbh as im self employed, its crap.

Does anyone else buy their handsets outright?

I dont like being tied into contracts myself, i always buy the phone, and pay £10 a month no contract, unlimited texts and net. I can also switch to which ever network has the best deal quickly without being tied in.

Cheaper to have a contract, most of the time you get better texts or minutes and you dont have to outlay out for an expensive phone.
£500+ phone / 24 months = £21 in a £35 per month contract.

Ive got a desire and a few friends have the iphone 3 and 4.

Basically things to consider are that the desire has a bit of memory for the operating system and the rest is on a removable card. This means that you can upgrade the memory for videos and maps and stuff. However you can not move some apps yet and this means that you are in fact limited to the amount of apps you can store on the device as its app specific as to whether it runs on the sd card. The i phone has no such issue and in my opinion this is significantly better.

Battery life on both devices is appalling! Do not expect it to last for half as much as your current phone. You will be Charging it every day. In this instance the desire is better because you can carry a spare battery or 20 if you need to!

But! Your away with your mates and you want to play your music to the room, go and plug your iphone into the dock thats everywhere and great stuff. You cant with the desire and this means that it doesn’t have that social factor that makes the iphone a hit.

Now the thing about these apps are some are great and some are utter rubbish. Iphone has always had the better app store but recently developers are choosing to move to the android system as a priority. I forsee that in the next 12 months you will get a much better developed experience on android over iphone. Its nearly there already but not quite.
