fizz if it does what you need then you got no reason to do anything to it, but if you do ever think " oh i wish i could do this " then it probably can.

I'm with Fizz on this - phone OS snobbery is totally pointless, in the same way that desktop OS wars are pointless and so are the wars between text editors. Just use the one which works the way you want it to, and accept that not everyone works in the same way

I'd like to raise one point though, which is confusing me. You say you would have to jailbreak an android phone to do what you want to do, but you're talking about something which is a long way away from normal usage unless I've misunderstood it. There are plenty of VNC clients out there for android (a quick search shows half a dozen) to allow you to control your desktop from a phone, but I can't understand the reasoning behind the reverse process - I'd go and fetch the phone, as the furthest away it'll be on charge at the other end of the room

Kinda the point I was getting at, I keep being told to jailbreak my phone, in order to deliver functionality that I dont want, I dont need and that I never asked for in the first place. Then when I say no thanks. The person who suggested it in the fist place then looks down their nose at me and suggest's I'm some kind of idiot.

Nail. Head. Hit.

I (kind of) said it last night and I'll say it again, the whole point of starting this thread was to feel superior and tell people that they made the wrong choice.

ThEGr33k, peoples choices with regards to a f***ing phone are not your problem. Get over it.

3. I can download apps onto
4. I can check my facebook on
5. I can surf the web and look at the org on
6. I can play a few games on.
7. I can upload music onto if I wanted to.

I like my phone, I am happy with my phone I'm happy with what I get charged to use my phone each month.

Yet a little while ago, I was told my a colleague that I was a "sad individual" because that phone that I am perfectly satisfied with is an Iphone 3GS.

Said colleague was disgusted in the fact that it was an iphone 3GS and not a Iphone 4 and that it wasnt even an Android. I asked said colleague to explain themselves and the best reason that they could come up with was "iphones are sh*t", we then had a discussion about how their opinion didnt necessarily make that statement a fact and I felt like said colleague had called my parentage into question.

This is what p*sses me off. I could give two hoots whether one is better than the other. What I resent is the snobbery in both camps over which device is better.

I'm sure my iphone will do more than I use it for, But the ponit here is that its my iphone and I am happy with what it does. I dont need to tweak it, jailbreak it, hack it or fiddle with it. It does what I want out of the box, yet theres an implication that I am some kind of techno retard because I havent done this or that tweak on it.
Cant blame you for not upgrading... From a completely neutral perspective, other than staying in fashion, I cant see any reason to "change" from a 3gs to a 4!

I dont out and out dislike iphones (yes I dislike apple and would never recommend them, but that is several other issues that arnt worth talking about), im just seeing if the average ios user knows what Android is, as there seems to be some strange thought for most ios users like the only option is apple... that is simply not true.

I have similar conversations with a colleague, and tbh its pretty often the other way round, I might say, "the new Samsung Galaxy S2 is very nice, great spec etc" and because he cant say anything else its one of the following replies. "Ios does it better", "IOS is easier" or "Iproduct looks more professional". He doesnt even give it a chance, its kinda stange, it almost seems like using an Iproduct somehow closes your mind.

Id like to say this really. When it comes to getting your next phone, seriously look at the options! The android family now offers a WIDE range of phones for all wallets and all demands.

Sorry that this has turned away from a friendly convo into a bit of a rant on both parts, Im trying to keep this as objective as possible.

If that is an honest argument, it is impressive that you can use a smartphone at all. I would seriously consider having my eyes checked if I was believing in such a statement. "Neutral perspective" ... oh yeah ... The truth is the Android fits you better and that should be it. The same Android will suck for other users as the iPhone sucks for you.

Have you wonder that you may like the Android simply because you hate Apple producst (or their policy or whatever) and this is the only alternative you have at the moment?

I have 2 Macs, 2 Windows PCs and 3 Linux boxes (different distributions). Macs I really enjoy working on, PCs are very flexible and Linux I can trust my servers with ... You are only limiting yourself by choosing one side by stubbornly ignoring the advantages of others.

Which is perfectly true for those who happen to appreciate those aspects. It doesn't mean it should be better for you as well. Is it better for them. Why do you consider that everyone should see the world the same way you do?

Now that's a thought. New Androids coming out as well as the new iPhone 5. Plenty to look forward to. I really hope Androids make something amazing this time so that I can really enjoy the iPhone 6 when will come out in time for my renewal. We can only benefit from diversity and competition.

So what is the huge advantage of the iphone 4 over the 3gs that I cant see and so makes me stupid? Im sure if they exist they arnt worth an extra cost of £30 a month and a one time fee of many pounds that the iphone 4 would cost Fizz to get, which is exactly the point I was making, not that either phone is inherently not worth having.

No, I had used ios way before I used Android, and thought it was ok, but never thought it was brilliant as some do. I then had chance to try android, and the way you can do things on it made WAY more sense to me, little things like being able to hide options buttons with the menu key including not having the bottom of the screen wasted with browser forward/backward buttons, customise the screen with widgets, lack of needing itunes which I found highly irritating and the general ability to make it unique and mine, something that I never felt towards any ios tool, it always felt like I was invading someone elses property when I used it. Course its a little better now I guess, you can have wall papers!

So no, its not that it was the only alternative, and that my blind hate (which you hint at me having) mean't I couldn't have an apple product so I had to look for another option, it was in its own right for me that android was my first choice.

My dislike of apple the brand came after this.

So your saying that you hope android makes big steps as though the android phones and os is way behind IOS and the iphone hardware and needs to improve to provide some competition? Just so I dont sound like an ignoramus with this; Most of the top end Android hardware is better than iphone hardware currently and was even at iphone 4's release, even without including this years announcements so android doesnt need to work too much harder with hardware, other than maybe looks if you are vein.

I know if what I see of Android 3.0 is anywhere near as good as it appears so far IOS will have its work cut out to stay looking fresh and attractive. You compare how the two OS's are evolving and you'll see Android is the one making huge jumps forward, and IOS is staying fairly stagnant (has it really changed much since release?). Android up until 2.1 was behind IOS ill admit but 2.1+ was/is pretty much on par if not better than IOS and now I think we'll start seeing it pull away from IOS tbh. But that is something to look forward to finding out...

It will also be interesting to see if Apple can keep up with its tech, spec wise the iphone 4 has never been the best phone on the market.
