As we're covered in a nice white blanket I decided to stay warm and paint the underseat battery box I made at work today, although I ran out of paint for the inside. It started off as tin plate, measured some lines around the battery, added some small tabs to put screws through in order to hold the corners together, a few bends later and voila!
Hot glued some foam around the battery and then lowered all into place, it fits nice n snug but may need a strap over the top just in case. It will bolt into two existing holes in the subframe and then needs another fixing to stop it swinging! (It turns out the tyres I bought are from the son of one of our works design office engineers, he's got a race er6 and will be competing at the 'C.o.c.k. of the north' (Please no sniggering!) Oliver's mount road races this year. Nick Anderson, look out for him!) ![]() ![]() It'll do until I can find a nice Lithium battery and maybe relocate forwards. Cheers. I'm going to suggest that if he gets some more to sell, he can post them on this forum, seems like they're in demand! |

Received the tyres today, the front is great but the rear looks a little worse for wear on the right, to be expected I suppose as most tracks are clockwise. I'm hoping to see his other set too and maybe pick out the best one to keep.

However I do have one question, the Shorai website recommends that the SV should have a version which can deliver 210 Cold Crank Amps. I was sure I read somebody who measured the amps drawn when starting an SV and was more like 75amps. Did I misread that or are Shorai just covering all bases with this recommendation? I guess I could borrow the clip-on ammeter from work and find out for myself in this rather cold spell we're having. |

The unit I'm using is the now discontinued predecessor to this motydesign LiFePo4 battery. Bryan at MOTY was brilliant to deal with, very informative and great customer communication, I managed to get a great bulk buy for this and the DRZ forum, even bought a few to stock for myself with the intention of selling them on, which I did. All but one which I'm currently using on my SV. I'm using it but it is available for sale as its a bit wasted on a commuter bike as its designed for race use. Saying that with these cold mornings (bike stored inside) its been fine still starts first time/turn only when I'm leaving work and the bikes been outside all day its taking a churn churn broom.
A little back story is that they developed the batteries to be as small and light as possible with the power greater than the ones they were meant to replace. So smaller, lighter and more powerful awesome! Mine measures 107x77x57mm They sold these off but received feedback that it was frustrating to have to modify the battery box to hold the new smaller units. Thats what started the development of the YUSA replacements linked above, they're similar sizes to stock (available in different sizes) so they're no longer smaller but they are much lighter and have more CCA. I cant fault mine, you can charge them on a normal charger BUT if you're leaving them on a trickle charger you'll need to buy a LiFePo4 specific one unless you want it to blow up. If you fancy the one I'm using drop me a PM. |

Had a test fit of the battery box:
(Sorry for crappy phone photos, some might say its to hide the poor finish of the paintwork!) ![]() It seems to be ok, I may move it even higher if I can to ensure the gap to the rear tyre is good but will wait for the seat first. Also got round to adapting some M6 pillars I 'found' to re-link the gear change rod after the riser plate addition. ![]() And finally your input please, I'm man enough to accept it if I bought some duffers but here goes! The front is spot on and probably worth 85% of what I paid for both, but what about the rear? Is there much life left in it in your opinion? Or is that what's to be expected of scrubs? Bear in mind I'm not Guy Martin, far from race pace yet!! (P.S. Thats the right side of the rear you can see) ![]() Last edited by Redmist; 05-01-16 at 10:18 PM. |
