Mmm, I like the pipework on that one but I think the cans look pretty awful tbh. Far too wide. If they'd been vertical, or round cans, it'd look far better.
I am with you on that Northy.

If you can't get the oval cans right under the seat, then they look much better mounted vertically imho - like this (even with a monstrosity of a plate):-

looks good pATz
but if i were you i would get the pipework TIG welded where it can be seen as it will make the joins look 10 times better, i may cost a bit more but it would be worth it IMO just to finish it all off nicely

I quite like visible welds, myself. More so on a curvy with its lovely frame welds

Hi there M.C.!

Yup, you're so right about the TIG welding being 10 times nicer than MIG weldings. Unfortunately when you are making piping from scratch (as I have) there is no way you (or should I say extremely hard!) to get the cutting of pipes and bends so nice and perfectly fit to be able to use the TIG. Another thing is that when the piping walls aren't thicker than ~0,6 - 1,0 mm the TIG weld is "too hot". Also having even small gaps between the pipes when welding you just burn holes in piping without getting a proper weld.

Unfortunately using the MIG will result in much more trimming work than if the TIG was used...

Cheers!

i have never done any TIG welding pATz but i know it is very hard and don't know the limitations for it.
although i have seen it done on the TV, they were welding formula 1 exhausts up and they are very thin section but i don't know if some special welding equipment was being used?
i was just wondering if a professional welder could do it for you, but you have already looked into by the sound of it.

keep the updates coming

Hello guys!

Spent the most of the day in the garage and have had a break now for a week due to travelling and other stuff. Have posted again some pics below so please feel free to comment!

I've fastened the bellypan but it's not yet painted. Painting will be the last job on this project!

As you can see there's not much left of the subframe as I had to do some serious cutting to fit the cans. Will weld it together with other parts to get it stiff and safe again so don't worry... .

If anybody would want a peace of a video clip with sound you can PM me and I'll send you the clip (=14 MB)... ... love the sound

Ok, off to the garage for an hour...

Cheers!
