I almost did! Saw a 2004 ZXR636 with 3'000 miles on the clock for £3'500. was soo tempted but knew I had to keep the bike for winter commuting and to save a few quid! The hornet was half the cost of the SV to insure.

The Kwaks atualy costing me less than the SV did to insure.... dont ask me how that works... I wasnt going to ask questions... the Kwaks £500 to insure comprehensive... the SV was £540 odd comprehensive..... though I do have 1 years extra NCB now... but still... cant complain!

My Kwaks now got about 28K on the clocks.. it had 12K on it when I bought it last september

They are sweet looking, sounding, handling bikes. I was a little unsure if I could live with it everyday though. Well, there is always next year........although I have my sights firmly set on a new Triumph Daytona 675! Yum!

Yeah loving his Hornets.

Comparing two similar bikes is always a hard'un as they have strenghts and weaknesses which sorta depends on what you want.

A bit like my ole GPz really...a lesser bike than the SV for sure but in no way bad.

Some of the GPz good points are easily better than the SV.
What you want I suppose...I could get 200 miles to a tank BEFORE reserve so it is better than a Hornet and the SV in this respect.

In my opinion it is. No question. I bought a brand spanking new SV in March this year and got it for a good price. Probably should have test ride it first as it was very uncomfortable. Engine was sweet though just let down by brakes and squishy suspension (but then I am 13 stone!). Hornet to me is firmer, better handling and faster and also the bolts won't rust after a drop of rain touches them. Plus you don't need to worry if ina heavy rain it will brake down. I broke down 4 times in teh 1st month of owning my SV due to rain, even teh fenda extanda did not eliminate that problem. Have you tried one? I know many of you have SV's so will defend it regardless. I got a 2nd hand 2004 Hornet with 2'000 miles and it is way better overall package for me. Only downside to the Hornet is lack of fairing (naked the only one to get) so get s a bit blustery above 80 (especially at 150 - on private test track of course). I feel more confident and comfortable on the Hornet, so for me it's better. Of course if you are a die hard SV fan then this will make no difference but the truth is there are better bikes out there, they just cost a little more. Anyway I'll shush now.

If you read my earlier post, you will see that i HAVE ridden a Hornet, along with a number of other machines. (I used to own a ZX6R)
I am pleased that you love your Hornet, but I am not blindly defending the SV. It has lots of faults and there are many better bikes out there. However, apart from personal preferences, the Hornet is NOT one of them. This is my opinion from having ridden both. I prefer the SV, but i am not going to say it is in a different league to the Hornet, whether I personally think so or not. This is what I read into your posts. Again, if the Hornet is a better bike, why do so many professional bike reviewers tend to disagree? Finally, it sounds as if you had a 'Friday afternoon' SV as my '02 has been nothing but reliable. My rant over!
