Hi Everyone,
After reading this thread and PM'in SVRash last night to say I'm in, I decided to look further into this Xenon HID technology. Now I'm all for modifications which improve safety or even improve it in my perception, but so long as they don't have a negative effect thats cool with me. For example I will wear a black visor in the summer daytime instead of sunglasses and a clear visor despite what the law says, and common sense usually prevails with the enforcers of this. Having read the following links I am having grave doubts about the benefits of this mod. I'm not trying to put people off or say its right or wrong just highlighting info available on the net and asking everyones opinion, it is a discussion forum after all ![]() http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Headlight http://www.askaprice.com/torque-arti...ained&item=596 http://www.danielsternlighting.com/t...s/Hid/HID.html I know Benji has highlighted the issue of legality which is kind of addressed in these articles. As a whole my impression is that factory fitted HID's are ok but conversion kits aren't what they are cracked up to be ![]() What do you all think? |

Wow, fascinating reading.
Personally I can spot retrofit HID lights a mile off (almost literally!), they look like they are strobing all the time, since they are not compensated for the vehicle motion like an OE system. The various references to the high amount of near UV light ring alarm bells when I consider my polycarb lenses as well, not least the explanation of why the brighter light is actually detrimental to my ability to see into the distance. |

Hmmm... I got to admit i'm having second thoughts now too
![]() If people still want to go ahead with the group buy then we will but if people don't, let me know and i can understand why ![]() I got to admit, i'm a bit gutted as i thought it would be a great upgrade to the poor SV lighting but by the looks of it, its not as good as the adds for the kits make out ![]() |

The way I see it, is that even if you don't like the results you can ebay the bits on easily enough. HID kits have been put into carbed SVS headlights with pretty good results before, though most likely it was a different kit. But yep, it's a definate approach with caution.

Well with 3 days to go i don't think we're going to get the numbers needed for the group buy now so i'm calling it off
![]() I think northwinds going to get and fit a kit to his bike anyway, i just hope he doesn't let it sit in his shed for month before fitting it ![]() ![]() I look forward to the "how too" northy ![]() |

Yep, that's the plan... Although it probably won't be fitted in a hurry regardless, I have other things to take care of first I think.

Another spanner in the works!!
Just contacted Chris at Genuine Auto about the kit, he was under the impression that for £100 he'd be sending out the SINGLE beam kit, that's no good for those who wanted the BI Xenon Kit, The group buy price for the BI Xenon kit was/is £130. Still cheaper than another I looked at ages ago at £300. Northwind - Are you ordering anytime soon? svrash - did you find any UK sellers of the BI Xenon kit? I mainly see single beam kits when I've looked. ![]() |
