Excatly, they are NOT legal in the UK, you wont be able to use it on a trackday (no gold sticker) and if you have any problems with it/drop it/have an accident and need it checking over ( a service arai provide f.o.c for ANY arai) then the UK arai will NOT deal with it-it will be sent back to where it was made |

Your original quote was: "Race powerbikes..ok take one GSXR1000 and spend equally as much on it..then go and race it in Powerbikes. " My point was you don't need to spend as much as the bike cost again to be competetive. In my opinion, the 3 grand Danny spent on a race conversion at Powerbike level is cheap - at Superstock level there's not a lot more you can spend money on. If someone racing in Powerbikes wants to spend another couple of grand on engine tuning then to be perfectly honest, I think they're mad. Were you at Brands in March when Tim Bourne took a virtually standard GSXR1000 K7 out in Forza Xtreme? He showed you don't even need to spend money on suspension, exhausts, rearsets and race seat units. Stick a K6 race fairing and a set of Metzeler Racetecs on, remove the rear lights and indicators and go racing...and win. It's all very well spending huge amounts of money on race bikes, but that doesn't always mean you'll be up there with the fast boys (or girls in your case). A lot of it is down to how well your thousands of pounds worth of gear is set up, and how well you can utilise it to your best advantage. Someone with good riding ability and a tactical brain can win on something that is pretty much as it rolled off the showroom floor. You got me there, sorry. I was referring to the bike he ran last year and earlier this year, not the '07 model he's taken to British Superstocks. When I last spoke to Steve he was saying that his '07 bike is down on power and 10kg heavier than his last one. |

Or from me, I've got loads but I won't give them to people with non-UK approved helmets or ones that aren't eligible to have them.

Ok, my 10p, you know you want it!!
![]() I think what Northy said sums it all up “a great bike won't make a rubbish rider a winner, but it could make a 4th place rider into a winner” … case in point Vale-Stoner ![]() ![]() ![]() Oh and at club level I think Powerbikes is a bit of an anomaly, the thous push out so much poke from the crate, they take a more talented rider to truly master/fully utilise the power than say a minitwin or a 400. Therefore having a powerbike that produces 170hp and one that produces 187 hp will have less of a marked effect than say a 65 verses a 72hp (i.e. the same 10% increase in power) minitwin/400. Again lets look at MotoGP, the 800s aren’t really that much slower than the 1000s … why … coz the thous just had an abundance of power, most of which couldn’t be utilised (it goes without saying they were skilful enough, but you literally couldn’t physically get ALL the power down). Finally after the areas this dude spent his £3k on (sounds like the most logical/necessary if on a limited budget to me ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Anyway, back to the initial quote ... a slightly lesser rider will beet a slightly better rider if on a significantly superior bike to override the skill deficit, but you aint gonna beet a better rider on a better bike!!!! ![]() Last edited by Blue_SV650S; 27-06-07 at 08:30 PM. |
