But the stock forks are underdamped anyway, so you'd be making the whole lot worse...

Damper rod forks are a compromise, which means wrong in both cases, you want damping on slow speed compression, like dive under braking, but little damping on high speed, like hitting a bump. A fixed hole size isn't linear either, 2x the flow will give 8x the resistance IIRC (its a square or cube law...). So basically forks dive like fark, but lock up solid on hitting a bump. Good solution eh...

Moral is, do what you want to the holes, they'll still be wrong. He's talking rubbish.

Brilliant. thanks for clearing that up! Springs it is (got them this afternoon )
He's done it on bikes before I don;t know how to break it to him, would it work on *some* types of forks?

Someone just told me this, do you think they're right, is it worth the risk for a few quid?

In countries where you drive or ride on the right the pattern "flares" a bit to the right side of the road to give a little extra light along the curb. The pattern is opposite in countries where you drive or ride on the left. Still, that bit of flare is not very useful. Just aim normally and you should be fine.

B0llocks man, if that bit of flare is aimed directly at an oncoming drivers eyes then it's not very useful, no it's illegal and f###ing dangerous.

If it's symmetrical it's alright, but if it's higher on RHS then it's a bad idea.

Some types of forks? You've got damper rod or cartridge, and reshimming cartridge forks is something I have no idea about. The only way drilling holes out would work is IMO if the bike was very overdamped as standard, which is definately not the SV's problem.

Cheers chris - I've kept the springs and am dealing with a unpaid item dispute on ebay over the american headlight :P Just won a uk one

Propped up the bike on a jack and chocked the back wheel and have removed the front wheel and mudguard. Going to replace the forks when I've collected them - any particular knack?
Also almost removed the handlebars but having a bit of difficulty removing the clutch cable - is the sv a bit funny for this?

Nah just remove it... make sure adjusters are backed off and you've got the slits in the adjusters lined up

My mate's given me these bars, they're slightly lower and differently shaped to the sv ones (and longer but obviously can be cut). Aiding my firebolt fairing conversion aside, will they actually fit the sv and be rideable? The scored bits for the yoke clamps are a few mill outward of where they are on my sv ones - will this make much difference? The bars are for a bandit 600 I think.

(also, as seen in the picture - what's the best way of removing the grip!?)
