Jade Goody

OK she has cancer, so do many other people. Why the publicity, i don't even know why shes famous. Theres plenty of people worse off than her, i know some personally.

Nope, but then when they did talk about their cancer their sole reason for doing so wasnt to make money from it. I agree it is a shame. Least she is raising awareness though.

However, doctors wont give women a smear test unless there are 25 yrs or over now. Before, it used to be when you first became sexually active - bit stupid if the woman has a history of cervical cancer in the family and she has to wait until she is 25 to get checked (it has happened, been a few cases in the news quite a while back).

I`m not thinking about what Jade`s done in the past or how she`s behaved be it an attention ***** or whatever. I was under the impression that this debate was about Jade`s behaviour now.... since being diagnosed with cancer and the fact that she`s made it public and that`s what i`ve been giving my opinion on.

I honestly don`t think she`s being selfish at all... she`s looking after the most important thing to her and thats her children. We don`t know what will happen after her death. As somebody has already mentioned her legacy could be the "Jade Goody Cervical Cancer Trust" or something same as we have the Roy Castle Foundation or the Linda McCartney Centre of Excellence.

By that I`m not saying Jade deserves to be up there in the ranks of Roy Castle so please don`t start debating that. I just think people should cut her a bit of slack.

I`ll apologise for getting caught up in this debate. I`ll put my soap box away now cos I know I can go over the top a bit about subjects I feel passionate about so perhaps I just need to chill.

I've lost my father, mother, grandparents, SIL to cancer, and I don't think for a moment your posts have come across in any way other than totally empathetic (if that's a word!) passionate is good-it means you give a ****, and it's good you do.

I truely believe Jade has shown abilities greater than many others myself included.
She applied for & was successful in Big Brother, she has had a successful TV career & started her own business, Beauty parlours & perfume.
I think she is perfectly entitled to keep all the money she is currently making for her family and the profile she is raising currently for cancer & the importance of smear tests for example will do far more good than her donating the what? few million, if that, she will earn to cancer charties. After all, what is the point of developing a cure if people (like her) don't even respond to diagnoses (such as her abnormal scans)

Not at all Claire, you express your opinions very well and I for one have enjoyed reading your posts. I am surprised this thread has turned into such a debate but it has made for some very interesting reading...
