We know people in a brief part of their lives through an internet forum, this does not give anyone the right to demand to know anything about anyone on here.

If DD has indeed passed away (and I see no reason why anyone should lie about it) then let it be.

Give your condolences to the family and move on.
I have lost friends through illness, on the roads and during both the gulf and afgan conflicts.

I have even been unlucky/honoured enough to be asked to carry my best mate into a church and then onto his grave in front of his children, one of which is my godson but I didnt need to know every detail of what happened.

IF THEY WANT YOU TO KNOW, THE FAMILY WILL TELL YOU.

Rob, I don't really have any opinions on this per say as I didn't have anything to do with DD, BUT, I will say this:-

The reasons behind anyone wanting to know more are personal, however, I believe through what I have read that Lozzo and a few others have wanted to clear this up in order to save people from crying for a man that decieved them. It is hard enough to lose anyone in life and someone knowingly causing other people pain and sadness is, IMHO utterly disgraceful. My family has been lied to in a similar matter (although the family member had died, the details were hidden by a neighbour for two years) and it is something that is unforgiveable.

So, while I can see the point of those wishing to let this lie and not ask questions about the "possibly deceased", I also feel that Lozzo has done the Org a real service by highlighting this so that those who have mourned DD may know the truth and not feel the sadness of his passing when things trigger the memory.

Those are my thoughts anyway, not a dig at anyone!

I just read the update on this thread and turned the laptop off, but I'm back on again as I can't let this rest.

Firstly why would anyone pretend to be special forces on an internet forum?

What would there be to gain?

Why give up after so many years of a charade?

...and the biggest one - why did I simply believe it to be true?

I admired the bloke as much for his top notch advice as for the fact I thought he was in the forces.

I just don't get it?
