I guess its one of those things, if you get it you get it, if you don't you don't. I know people with iPhones who couldn't give 2 hoots, and others who rave about it.
I tried it, didn't like it & so went down the Windows 8 route as BB was going down hill.

That's me mate, I've got a 4s, had a 3GS before, I never updated that either unless I had to, what I don't get is the hype for anything apple, I like their products, I'm not knocking them, it's just that no other manufacturer gets the same hype, people queuing up at midnight just to get the first iPhone 5? That desperate to get one so you can post on fb that you've got one.

If it was something major that really changed the way the phone worked then I'd get it, but all I can work out is it gives you a torch, better menus and a few other minor tweaks.

Other than the usual cosmetic and feature related changes, there are some very good reasons to upgrade your device to the latest operating system with latest patches installed. Bugs get fixed, security vulnerabilities get closed, new software performance enhancements get added. Boring but practical stuff.

That I fully appreciate, but the average person raving about it in cyber space, ie FB, didn't download it for those reasons.

No worries mate, didn't mean to sound ****y!

Just no point in continuing as we'd have been there all bloody night lol

I can be honest, there are a lot of good features in iOS 7, control centre, passwords in the key string or what ever it is and lots of other stuff.

The main reasons I wanted it so bad...
1) the updates to find my iPhone. The new features in iOS 7 mean if you lose your phone and use iCloud to set it as lost and lock it, you and only you can enable that phone to be used again. Previously the phone could be reset and it was a brand new phone. Now you have put enter your Apple ID details to unlock the phone and/or reset.
2) the child in me loves the floating wallpaper, mainly because mine are boobs and it's nice to be able to get the icons out the way.
3) air drop, for when my mates all get up to 5's or 5s's
4) camera updates
And lastly and this is really the most important (and reason why I said earlier I can be honest)
5) it's shiny, it's Apple and I want it!

Have to say, SJ is to blame, I was never fussed about apple till the 3 was launched and I saw his keynote.

Since then I have been converted (almost completely) to apple. Got a MacBook Pro, iPad and iPhones (yes plural until I can sell my 4 and 5, anyone interested??)

I still have a pc but only because it has 1.5tb of stuff in it that I can't put anywhere else. If I could afford a Mac Pro, I would be sorted!

So to round it up, you are right. In my mind there are 2 types who use macs etc.

Those that use the macs for creative stuff, design, music, video editing etc where they really shine.

And those who get it because it's shiny. I fall firmly in this category, as do I imagine the people you spoke to. Classic example is the iPad. Up till then no one needed one. But they wanted one. Why? Simple. It's apple, it's shiny and I want it.

Windows and android for people who need things. Apple for people who want things. Lol

Isn't this normal for many things that we buy? Clothes, cars, motorbikes, jewellery, cameras, hifi.... We want it to function, we want it to look good, impress people, reflect the way we see ourselves, make us feel good?

We are all different and the value of each of these goals ranks differently, but this is what people do. I work in an organisation that spends 9 billion euro on branding and advertising each year, it really does make a difference how things are marketed.

Apple have targeted a particular set of users and sell what is generally perceived to be a cool but premium product set, some people choose to associate themselves with that and is the reason they buy it. When iOS7 comes along they get to renew that image and rave about it all over again.

Anyone getting the 'wrong' number of unread e-mails showing on the home screen icon?

Yesterday it was 20 off thousand, now it's 4, but the real number should be 1!

And now it's saying 25975 again, or to be more accurate it's saying that on the inbox and showing 2...5 on the home screen icon.
