I don't think I understand the concept of that word

Anyways, my rant was not aimed at anyone. I do not believe that anyone would knowingly give false or misleading information. The point I am trying to make, albeit not very well it seems, is that some people that are giving advice seem to be doing so on hearsay alone, as some of those people that have been giving advice have only been riding or got into bikes a short time. And some of the advice that has been given by these people are quite alarming in some instances.

There have been several occasions where duff information has been given and this has not been picked up by the more knowledgeable until some 2 or 3 pages later. It has been said that only a fool would take the first bit of advice and disappear to perform that advice themselves. However the fact that sometimes fundamental errors in advice given have not been picked up immediately.

I just wish the less knowledgeable people on the site would stop giving the advice. Surely they would be better off watching the thread and wait for someone that really knows what they are talking about to post the reply. You could learn something this way.

I joined this site to get maintenance advice and I have to say you lot have been great

My first post was about stripping the front brake calipers and although an (otherwise very useful) initial reply advised putting coppaslip on the seals somebody else was along within a few minutes to correct it.

Even as a newbie to the site you can generally separate knowledgable postings from guesswork ones. Saved me a dirty great servicing bill it did - cheers!

or the most common thing that happens is:

Someone who knows what they are on about replies only to be shot down by someone who suggests a bodge job is better just to save a few squiddlies or implies that they know better than the experts!.

Wont name names but got an email from someone the other day after reading the shock thread trying to tell me that I obviously know nothing about shocks and fitting a GSXR shock to the SV is what most racers do and i talk crapola when it comes to me suggesting a shock that is actually made for the bike is better than one that isnt!. He clearly doesnt know me or any racers very well!

Anyways didnt grace his preciousness with a response..all it did was re-afirm that the internet is getting fuller by the day of armchair know it alls!..failing that or it was a wind up

but then again advice on here can the majority of the time be very helpful!

I've not been riding that long (legally) but I DO know how to set up suspension. Does that mean I'm talking crap or giving bad advice???

Don't you think that if you're gonna make a sweeping statement then you should at least let the people know they're doing something wrong??

For example if someone "advised" someone wrongly and they got hurt how do you think they'd feel?

People will stop posting because you've just created doubt and suspicion in their minds.

Equally, people who DO know will think twice about offering good advice for fear they're gonna get the **** taken out of them.

I know I'll think twice about giving advice now!
