That's good, it took me ages to choose (I am very indecisive) and nearly went with a place in Cannock. My fella went with Bikewise, the only thing that put me off was the really short lessons and only 4 of them, all the other schools were offering full days.

Glad I made the right choice, my 1sy lesson is on the 24th

(Apart from the illegal ones I have on an industrial estate ssshhhh )

Well I have had my SV650s 3 days and dropped her once in U-turn and had major problems moving her at the side of my house, boyfriend had to come and bail me out, so she didnt get her clean and polish as I fell out with her.

My confidence is at an all time low and I have decided to cancel my lessons therefore no need for my bike and gear.

The only damage I have done is to the indicator cover which I can replace as I have dropped her on me and my leg has the bruises to show, only dropped doing a U-turn.

I will do a listing on FOR SALE section of bike and gear I have.

I am gutted, crashed and burned before I took off

I'll pretend I heard none of that!

Cancel them lessons and I'll hunt you down and make you eat sprouts. Or worms. Or sprouts with worms in.

please don't take this to heart it is natural to feel that way after a drop, it takes a while to get used to the wieght and how to handle the bike. you really need to stick at it and you will get it. after your lessons you'll feel much better

I was really scared for 2 weeks after i bought the bike - and i had my licence and could ride about! i was scared of dropping it, falling off, i even wanted my scoot back- all this was after having load of lessons on a 125 and then jumping onto the sv

it takes practice just like most things and you need to persevere to get the most out of riding, belive me it is so worth it.

btw since those 2 awful weeks (3 slow drops) i haven't dropped the bike since, never cursed her or regretting buying her......

it is the best thing i ever did....and i still make mistakes (nearly crashed into a good mate on sunday) but i learn from each one.

...don't give up so easy

Sorry to hear this. I hope you will regain your confidence and reconsider learning to ride.

Everyone lose confidence. I lost confidence in riding this summer when I didn't think, misjudged an overtake in a group ride and got my mirror knocked out by a speeding oncoming biker. I was incredibly lucky not to come out worse.
Took me weeks to go out on the bike again and I still question my ability to make safe overtakes, but biking is one of the few pleasures I have in life and I'll never give it up.

Maybe another bike which is more upright like the ER-6 or the naked SV650 will help on U-turns.

No don't give up. Everyone has their confidence knocked every now and again. Best thing you can do now is get back out on the bike and keep trying. Nobody's a natural. Except me and maybe Vale Rossi. Well, maybe Rossi.

Don't give up!

Shelly noooooooo - you cant give up before you start

I cant remember without going over the whole thread - have you done your CBT?
Its a big step up going from nothing to an SV or even a 125 to an SV, you have to build up by going on the smaller bikes first.

I would put the SV away go and do the CBT - the instructors build confidence and technique up slowly, I had a bike at home before doing mine and I felt the same - I couldnt even sit on it without thinking it would fall over - its all technique and takes time to get used to it.

Everybody drops their bike at sometime or other (even my ol' man who has been living and breathing bikes for 35 years and has owned just about every bike there is and has done quite literally millions of miles )

Also - Ive just had 18 months off due to health probs and Ive been precariously shunting my bike around the garden to get used to it again because Ive lost the feel of a bit and tbh Im really nervous - and Ive got 4 years and approx 15k miles under my belt (I know not much compared to many but done in 2 years of that time!) - but I know that I will build up the technique again in time.

Dont try to run before you can walk - like any new skill it takes time to learn it.

i would've done the same if i'd tried to go on an sv before i'd even done my cbt

if i were you i would put it away and not do anything with it until you've passed your test - get on some 125s during your lessons and get used to being on a bike! they are a lot lighter and won't start to fall over and take you with them quite as easily.

u turns aren't very easy on an sv either

Thank you guys

Need2ride - yeah I did my CBT at the start of July. I did that easy no problems.

I went to an industrial estate and rode up and down a rode great, no jerking, smoothly and turned around at the junction. I then had loadsa confidence and attempted a U-turn, that's when I dropped her. I held her for about 5 secs on a slant then she was too heavy hence no damage to her and just my leg.

My boyfriend was great, gave me a bighug and told me to get back on but I couldn't.

Todays boo boo was in the passage way down the side of my house which is where she was this afternoon, I was trying to pull her backwards (to polish her) but the back wheel hit a slab which is slightly raised and she fell away from me, she was then leaning up against my house by the wingmirror, luckily the bodywork did not touch the wall else I would have been more gutted. I couldn't pull her back to me and had to get my fella to come and stand her up.

I just feel she is too heavy and I am not strong enough to maneouveure her, but the space was very tight.

I don't wanna give up

I may take your advice Need2ride - do my DAS and then I can make mistakes on their bikes and not my baby, my boyfriend can keep it at his so I am not tempted - don't run before I can walk - RIGHT ?

Oh and CheekyLemon - I love sprouts not so sure on worms tho
