I certainly am not judging anyone who is into guns, I am not educated enough on them to do so.....but....I just don't get it? Put me straight if you wish, but for me personally they create feelings of fear and destruction, even when I try and look at the engineering etc I still cant get past the feelings of fear, maybe it is a phobia?!

My kids are obsessed with guns, and their dad encourages this, but it just worries me.

Ditto KeithD - no guns=people cannot use them to kill other people.

Being as objective as I can, at one time they were just a tool (Army service) and required cleaning, which was never a great passion of mine, however once they were a known quantity and I found I had a natural skill, it became pleasing to use them.

I see no difference in a gun or a hammer/motorbike/car or whatever, all are capable of distruction if used that way, it's down to how you use them, although I would admit the thought of, how should I put it, the less wise, having them could well be scary

I would imaging the popularly portraid perseption of power is the attraction to a great many.

I'll garentee you some people think your crazy to ride a motorbike, in fact statistically you're suicidal, it's all perspective.

Cheers Mark.

The common sense side of me agrees with what you are saying, and that is why I don't judge anyone who enjoys shooting, or the gun. BUT, I still can't get passed the fear, which is disappointing because I like to think that I am broadminded enough to understand other peoples hobbies, even if they don't interest me. Maybe I was shot in a previous life !

Rictus I get that argument, but the big difference with guns is they are designed to maim and kill. That is thier purpose. A hammer is a useful tool that can be MISUSED to hurt or kill someone. A bike is a tool to transport you around, misused it can you or others. A gun is a tool to kill and hurt - period.

I'm not saying no one should have them, but you should have a reason. Having one cos you like guns seems like a good reason for not being allowed one.
