Morning!

Not fair you all finishing this week, I'm here until christmas eve which I hope will only be a half day!

Plus just found out that everybody going to the xmas do on friday can leave at 4-4.30 to get ready.... those of us not going have to still work till 5.30

Thats blatant unfair treatment of workers. Complain bitterly - assuming that you do have to go to the 'do'. The other either have to make it up _ before they use it- or you get to break at the same time (as would happen if everyone decide to go to the 'do')
Its harrasment and discrimination - two words employers definately don't like to hear - esp when there's a break coming up and people have time on their hands to talk to people.

I would well have a quiet word with the boss and gently explain the situation and how this is seen by those not going. If they still don't see it explain how would this situation have been covered if everyone wa going. if they still don't see it - tell them its unfair and unlawful working practices - you believe the tribunals see it as discrimination.
if all else fails - throw a tantrum and then sit inthe office till 5.30 but do no work!

no they think they can do what they want - if challenged they may see it differently- its the classic mentality they do what they want becuase no one will challenge - if all those having to work till 5.30 stick together then there is a good case.
If you challenge the behaviour together and explain the situation they MUST sit down and listen the same as they must treat all employees equal - I searching for the offical words for you

Thanks Q.....

but I actually work in HR payroll, and co sec..... and currently helping to write new policies, I also have seen what happens to people who moan! Thats why I keep my head down, one day they will come up against some one who will sort them out!
