You have my sympathies Gary and I think you are spot on with the point. If you get the chance read 'Less: Stop Buying So Much Rubbish' by Patrick Grant, which expands a similar point how people buy cheap clothes because thats what they can afford, but in bygones days people had clothes that lasted a lifetime.

Wow 3 years already Gary, how time flies.

Regarding clothes, i have no option but to buy my clothes from Next as its the only place that sell my size. Maybe once a year i buy an item of clothing and i dont care that i look like "last years trend". I think people that buy clothes a lot do it so they dont get looked down on.

Only thing i refuse to skimp on is cooking utensils such as pots, pans and such like and have had the same ones for over 30 years and my eldest has his eye on them for when i shuffle off.

Update re licence restoration. Had a letter Friday stating application refused due to not supplying a letter from a health professional, I had not seen anybody re the stroke since the stroke so I Rang Drs to see if I could get an appointment so I could verify from a physical examination that there was no reason I should not drive. No can do without the DVLA contacting the surgery first. OK ,then rang Ashby Spec savers to book a peripheral vision test. No can do without the DVLA contacting them and sending me a reference number. So rang DVLA, an hour long wait to be answered, got though, got passed on, explained my predicament. In the end I have to send in the results of my last two NHS eye tests. Getting close to slitting ones throat time! Onward and upward!

Bloody hell, that's not a great situation RT. Hopefully once they get the last two eye tests they'll pull out their fingers and sort your licence.

Octopus energy. They've emailed me this morning to announce that they're going to increase my DD from £100 to £141 a month despite the fact that I'm £500 in credit. They predict that I'll go into arrears over the winter.
Now I watch my usage carefully and I've never gone into arrears and alter my DD to suit. Their predictive algorithm has never been reliable and it certainly doesn't know what kind of winter we're likely to get.

I'm with Octopus. You don't have to accept the increase. They raised mine a bit so I just changed it on their page. I'm always in credit as well so I dropped it a bit and hopefully it will use up some of my credit. Go to the Payments page and change it to what you like
