AR2014 - Anyone thinking of heading up for it?
Hi All,
Just wondering if anyone if thinking of heading north for AR2014? This year will see it being based from Bellingham, west of Newcastle and just south of the Scottish border...it's a long old trip to get there at about 300 miles from Norwich but should be do-able in 2 halves in a single day (maybe stop in Grimsby for fish and chips en-route?). I think the ride out and general scenery will be well worth the effort, the campsite with £8 per person per bike camping looks good So who's up for it? I've been given the thumbs up from the mrs...

I do plan on getting the mrs on the back this year, that's part of the reason of the rocket, but it might just have to be days out rather than a longer trips like this one this year...she didn't like going on the back of the SM-T very much

I'm thinking of a devious plan to use the car and bike
But like you there's other pressures to get dependance looked after (parents),.

I know I'm not from the area but would maybe convoy up! I'm considering the AR this year, just depends on the date of it as I already have a few trips planned for this year.

Re: AR2014 - Anyone thinking of heading up for it?
An A1/M1 convey? We just put a first stops on route and people join as we go?
From Norwich we're talking 3 hours to Grimsby (or maybe less for somewhere else), that's the AM....then 3hrs from there to Bellingham... Is anyone coming from Norfolk/Suffolk up for making Grimsby the first pit stop for fish and chips or would you sooner save a half hour and keep it inland with motorway services? Via Grimsby (6 hrs): http://goo.gl/maps/J9CeV Services off the M1 near Bawtry (5.5 hrs): http://goo.gl/maps/3qSTu ...no point trying to do it all on B roads right, too long haul for that, just stick to the main roads and keep the average up right? We can worry about pit stops later for fuel / taking a **** etc as I would imagine my tank ranges are on the long end anyway

Well a loose convoy with rendezvous points might be Ok.
I've done home to Mary Port in a day. But the next day was a bit foobard. Ok the 675 is easier to use than the RSV.

Re: AR2014 - Anyone thinking of heading up for it?
Mmmm, Mary Point aint too different distance wise to what we might be attempting...
We need to know the weekend's organisation don't we! If we are heading up on a Friday and then next days riding starts early it may be better having a nice ride up in 2 parts and stopping somewhere on the way...like Grimsby maybe lol....(I don't know what this recent obsession with Grimsby is btw)...or we just set off early hours so we get there earlyish and can rest well (and drink) before the next day I am also toying with the idea of heading into Scotland after the weekend and making it a longer holiday to get more good roads in...it would likely be a Rocket 3 affair if I do (may do North Devon in May too with other Rocketeers)
