The oil fairy
Not only have i got bodged wiring that causes my bike to break down and not start and do strange things. But now i've got the mother of all oil leaks. I noticed it wednesday night but still had oil showing up to 3/4 of full on site glass, still half full yesterday morning so went to work on the bike, and when i checked this morning i had no oil at all to see in my site glass. Yet none on the ground under my bike. I think some ones stealing my oil(the oil fairy). Worse than that i may have knackered my engine.
HELP!!!!!! |

How are you filling and checking the oil?
The bike must be stood upright, ie, not on the side stand. It sounds like you may have overfilled it. They are a pig to check on your own because you have to hold it upright and lay on the floor to see through the spyhole, especially if you have fairing lowers |

I've found where it's leaking. The plastic cover thingy with the oil filler cap in the top has got cracks round 2 or 3 of the bolts. |

Hi e.d.
Sounds like you need a new cover then! Easy enough job to do though. Unless you noticed your red oil light come on , you are unlikely to have done any engine damage (this is an oil pressure indicator). If it lights up, you have low or no oil pressure. Even though your oil level may have been low, there should have been enough in there to circulate at a normal pressure otherwise your warning light would have come on. This is presuming your oil pressure warning light and switch are working . Easy to check: does the light come on when you turn the ignition on? If so, does it go out almost immediately when you thumb the starter? If the answers to both is yes, you should be ok. Regards Rich |

Id recomend getting yourself a Black K5 with lowers, seat hump, hugger...oh, you have ok then!
Then id recomend taking your sv over the ranges and getting the boys with tanks to blow it up. Sounds like, im sorry to say, that your old bike as a bit of a dog! |

If its a new bike, I would recommend taking Cloggsys oft proffered wisdom, and ring your dealer
I had a new engine fitted because the dealer left the filler plug loose. & my oil light never came on either |
