Default Tacho not working sv650 X 1999

Hello SV650 people

I've just finished restoring my Son's SV and it rides sweetly for a bike of 23 years vintage.

Everything works apart from the Tacho. (rev meter)
I'm into electronics a bit (Geek) as it was my trade so measured the incoming signal on a scope from the ECU and it seems to vary its frequency upon changes in revs which suggest the signal is good.

The mechanical dial doesn't move at all. I can't see any signs of physical damage, the shaft doesn't wobble and the needle returns to zero if manually moved.
I can see that one of the resistors has got rather hot so plan to replace this but I have no idea as to its Ohm rating as its black!

Two questions please:
1. any clues as to where to get a new tacho? ( Ive tried Ebay for a bit)
2. Any other pointers.

Ta
Nick

It's been a while, but here's my recollection. (This is for the gen 1 SV650, not SV650S which is different).

The tacho is easy to replace, but hard to get hold of. Two things can go wrong with it - something on the board can blow (never happened to me) or the air core gauge can get damaged when knocked (which has happened twice).

Once you remove the needle and take the face off (be careful with both of those), there are two screws on the bottom which connect to the ACG which then pulls off the front and you can take a good look at the coil - in one of mine, one of the wires had snapped, and in the other the plastic had broken too.

With the ACG off, you can check the signals to it with a scope - from memory it's the phase difference between them which determines the amount of rotation, the board is well marked. You can test it off the bike with a 12v supply and signal generator.

If the ACG has gone, then I think your best bet is to find a spare set of clocks on ebay, they do turn up occasionally. I tried finding the ACG on its own as a part and gave up.

If the board has gone, then you may be able to find out which component has gone, but equally I can probably lay my hands on a couple of boards which you can try.

See this post,

https://www.svrider.com/threads/tach...0/post-5366826

I had a non-working Tacho after my R/R went a few years ago on my Gen1 99 and the over-voltage blew a resistor and diode on the Tacho's circuit board. My rough fix from that post is still working 4 years plus on
