Default servicing schedule

I think this was covered a month or so ago but was part of the lost data. Wondered if someone could post up what is done at each service? Mine is due its 8k service and im not sure whether to do it myself or take it to a dealer. I can change oil/pads/filters etc but not sure on valves etc.

On top of that, it's probably worth changing the fork oil at either the 8k or 11k service, and if you are doing it yourself, removing any bolt that you are ever likely to need to remove during later services and grease them, leaving them over winter means they will corrode and be much harder to get undone (trust me on this one...). It won't do any harm to replace the filter every time as well, even though the official schedule says you don't have to, putting clean oil into a dirty filter somehow doesn't seem right.

At every service check condition of spark plugs and gap. I also check the air filter housing, to make sure the two crankcase breathers are not leaking too much oil (have replaced crappy spring clips with jubilee clips).

At 15K you'll also want to check valve clearances, and I'd be re-greasing all the suspension linkages by now as well.

Cheers,

MT

I know Big Ape its shameful, especially considering that only 1500 miles have been covered this year. A mix of things really, which would take too long to explain, however im going onto shift work in January, which means ill be getting plenty of time to myself midweek - ideal for getting out on the bike. Watch this space....

the inportant things that a lot of people forget or don't take seriously are lubing the lever pivot bolts, and cables, clean & lube shift linkage

these things are just as important as changing the oil & filter, plugs, carb syncn air filter, etc.
