Recommend me a helmet camera.
I'm looking at getting a helmet camera.
Can anyone recommend one? Maximum budget is £250. Seen this one online which seems to be ok? http://www.winwood-outdoor.co.uk/aca...FRI-lAodBnNczw Do helmet cameras really stay on even when belting down a motorway? |

Re: Recommend me a helmet camera.
For £250 you can get some meaty kit now a-days. The one you linked to is good but not brilliant.
Bang on your budget is this system which is a bullet camera linked by wire to a DVR (digital video recorder). http://dogcamsport.co.uk/minidvr-h72...ra-system.html It records in 720p HD quality which will give you great results. They are quite hungry for space and you have to buy a memory card for that one separately and you'd need at least 8 GB which would push it slightly over your budget. Then there is this one. http://dogcamsport.co.uk/contourhd-helmet-camera.htm Alot of people are using this and is quite popular among motorbike vloggers. Once again it records in 720p HD which will give you great results. It's also a single wireless unit so you don't have to worry about wires at all. You'd also need to factor in a memory card for this one because the one supplied isn't really sufficient. There's plenty more over here. http://www.dogcamsport.co.uk/products.htm The general key is the cheaper the kit, the chances are it could lack in overall quality. Obviously there is tons more choices to pick from and people are experimenting with different ones here. http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=139138 As for the cameras staying on then it all depends on what camera and mount you use. The suction ones are meant to be good but it depends on how much trust you have in it. There's also high adhesive Velcro you could use too. When I had my bullet camera on my helmet I just used gaffa taped on it, job done. |

Re: Recommend me a helmet camera.
Thanks Seggons.
Whatever camera I get, I'll do the same as you and tape it down. I just wouldn't trust it to stay on with just the mountings. I was drawn to the one I linked to as it is capable of taking still shots too.I want to be able to set the camera to just take photos without me having to stop. I don't think all of them have this function. And it has to be dead easy to set up. Thanks for the link to the other thread. |

Seems daft to have a setup that's bike-only, so you might as well just have a proper camcorder with an A/V in then plug a camcorder in. £250 would buy you that no problemo

Re: Recommend me a helmet camera.
Are you going to use it for other things too ie paintballing ect?
Seggons has a great system on his bike and gets some brilliant videos from it too but being so good has it's downsides too. The system I use isn't as good but I use it paintballing and on the crosser (as well as strapping it to scalextric cars ) too which I couldn't do with the setup Scott uses. Look into how much your likely to want to make other use of it before you spend your cash on any one setup. |

Those Hero cams also do an HD version. It came top of three tested on the Gadget Show going down a luge. They are very versatile too with a mount for pretty much everything.
I hope to get one eventually. |

Re: Recommend me a helmet camera.
I think what he meant to say was...
"Seems daft to have a setup that's bike-only, so you might as well just have a proper camcorder with an A/V in then plug a bullet camera in. £250 would buy you that no problemo" Basicly if a camcorder has the A/V inputs you could just buy a bullet camera, plug it into the camcorder and use that to record. But as you've just listed the things you want to do this might not be the best idea. A GoPro might be the best bet for you then. It comes as splash-proof but I believe you can get a waterproof casing for it. The only downside to these all in one units is the sound because the mic is built in too. So if you start moving at any kind of speed then the chances are you'll just get wind noise. |
