Default Identify This Classic

OMO, can you help identify this classic motorcycle of around the 1950's. i have another picture of my grandad on a BSA bantam dated 1956 so i would presume that this larger bike is after that.

things to look for are the headlight binnacle shroud is not one piece like BSA, gaiters at the bottom of the forks, pointed mudguard and side set fuel filler.

thanks Bibs

same here John. i have been looking at classic bikes all day. it looks like a cross between an AJS and a BSA, thought it was a Matchless at one point.

I'm thinking late 1940s Panther here Lance. Although this is not the same model, it appears to have similar forks (would explain why the fork gaiters are on the lower part of the fork legs)

It's tricky because it's hard to make out the details of the engine, a lot of bikes from the late 40s to mid-50s had those types of forks. Could be a Panther as Gary said, or possibly one of the bigger-engined James or Francis-Barnetts

congratulations Craig, its a 1950-51 Francis-Barnett Falcon. they came in a few different guises.

if you take away the leg shields and screen its pretty much identical Link

this one even has the same numberplate style

Yay! I thought I'd spotted that characteristic Villiers 'saucepan' right-hand-side crankcase cover.

Do I get a Crackerjack (CRACKERJACK!) pencil?

Dad had a FB Plover complete with leg shields and handle bar screen back in the early- mid 60s. Not the most reliable as I recall. I broke the rear subframe trying to start it whilst on its centre stand
