Default Cam Chain Tensioner

Hi All,
As a part of routine checks / servicing, is it possible to check the Cam Chain Tensioner on a K1 curvy?
I've read a few horror stories when these things fail.
Is it a specialised job that needs half the bike dismantling by a qualified mechanic or a relatively straight forward DIY check ? (ie similar to checking your main drive chain tension). Finally - how many do I have, where are they and where do I find them ?
Thanks for looking

Search the site. You'll be amazed at the wealth of information available. I've written a complete description of what to do before, it's not hard, just fiddly.
