scaring on brake pistons
my pistons on my curvy sv which are now 5 years old have developed mild scaring onthe section that tends to get salt and mud clogged.
Is it recommended to change them. I imagine they will crud up quicker as not a smooth surface any more?? cheers in advance |

Yes.
Change them if you can. Once they are pitted and scared you will find that not only will dirt ingress in behind the dust seal, but that you can also find that the piston will actually drag the dust seal away from it's correctly seated position. This will cause sticking pistons. This can lead to binding brakes. This can lead to over heated disks and warped disks. If you can't afford to change the pistons as I can't, then you will need to check the pistons and seals more often and spend more time cleaning them. |

Cheers big ape
I had suspected as much. It's not a job you would want to do more than is possible eh? brake cleaner and fluid is horrid stuff! I bet they are ridiculously over-priced like all bike parts! |
